Pros

-Cool work within the entertainment industry. They are known as the agency to produce "edgy" & thoughtful design. -Owner/Chief Creative Director is patient & knowledgable. -DYI and hand done design is encouraged. -Great-looking offices with up-to-date equipment. -Everything is very organized -Fully stocked kitchen. -Occasional happy hours on their cool deck.

Cons

-Team does not feel like a team, there is no unity whatsoever. -Extremely poor leadership skills with language that borders on abusive. -Extremely poor communication amongst the staff, information does not get passed on and contradictory directions are often given. -Really high turnover rate (40%+ in 2014) -Sexist mentalities that are condoned by the administrative side. -Negative attitudes, huge egos. -Poor life-work balance. It's the type of culture where one is deemed a bad employee if you don't want to work 10+ hrs everyday, even if there is nothing that needs to be worked on. Getting out on time is rare. -Limited parking: they only have parking spaces for about 10 employees, the rest have to find street parking. -The owners choose to do very little, if nothing, about the problems stated above.

Big unfortunate letdown

Pros

The studio looks really trendy & cool and has a nice terrace/patio where they hold birthday celebrations and happy hours every now and then; it definitely has a very "design-y" feel to it. As a brand, Gravillis Inc has a rather streamlined identity that is very congruent with the type of work they produce. A handful, and I mean literally a handful (if that), of the people were really awesome. There's good opportunities to work on cool indies & documentaries and they like to promote from within. Also, there's a nice park within walking distance that's great for lunches or breaks.

Cons

As a creative, when I first started working at Gravillis, I was beyond excited and pumped to work at a place that had such a cool look to it. Sadly, it all came crashing down once I realized how awful the environment really was. The "coolness" of it all was just a facade. There was never any unity or sense of team at this studio. People would badmouth one another and it was very clear most people didn't like each other. At all. You would walk in, hear the same music playing and nobody would be talking to one another. You could cut the tension with a knife. Seriously, I've been to libraries more lively and exciting than this. The "leaders" over in the creative side would talk with such a condescending tone and would say the most rude things. It became pretty apparent that they lacked any leadership skills. All in all, everyone was pretty bitter. The owners had this mentality that if you weren't willing to give up your life to work at this place it meant that you were "weak" and/or that you didn't "want it bad enough". That meant they would accept tons of projects without giving a hoot about whether or not their overworked employees could take on more. Of course, they would only come in a few hours a day, so they wouldn't care or even know. Additionally, there was a clear divide between the men and the women and the administration did nothing to fix this. On the contrary, one time there was this "women's meeting" where they basically told the female designers that they had to work extra hard to prove to the guys that they "weren't weak" and that they "deserved to be there". Not even kidding, it was something straight out of the 1960s. On the less serious issues, the design area is open so you get zero privacy and there isn't enough parking spots for everyone, so some people are left to find parking in the surrounding neighborhood. Not surprisingly, Gravillis has a rather high turnover rate.

Pros

-Interesting creative -Cool office space -Fully stocked kitchen -Holiday parties and happy hours could be fun -Trauma bonding turned into actual friendships

Cons

-Really bad hours, with expectations to show up early and stay late pretty much all the time. 10-12 hour days are completely normalized -Toxic culture - completely agree with reviewer who mentioned that you look like a "bad employee" if you don't want to work 10+ hours a day -Sometimes communication felt abusive / bullying - lots of passive aggression -Unnecessarily intense all the time -Admin that isn't honest or transparent with creative staff regularly -"Family" environment, take that for what you will -A lot of egos, not a lot of true leadership -Sexism/misogyny -Very high turnover Plus everything that every other reviewer has said about this agency. Nothing has changed. Please take all of these reviews seriously.
