Pros

Immediate engineering team and technical leadership were incredible. Well designed product. Early days company culture and vibe was extremely positive and created a lot of buy-in

Cons

No medium or long term strategy Reactionary/firefighting approach Happily burn out, gaslight and undermine people Lack of sales coordinating with product management - 50% of what we built was never fully rolled-out or delivered the deals or values promised Poor pay and equity

Thanks for your feedback, Looks like you recently left the company but have been with the company for a while, The mission and strategy of the company has not changed since the early days and is consistently communicated to the team. We've always had an 'open-door' approach where we would be happy to have a dialog with you or anyone if you don't understand what is happening or need more clarity. At times we need to drive towards a common goal and this might mean that not everyone is onboard to put in the same amount of effort or are able to meet the demands of what is required. This would be the burn out and undermining you have experienced. A different perspective to your point about the "lack of sales coordination" is... 50% of what you help build did get rolled out! I think that is a massive plus. Focus on the positives. Company building is a team sport and we don't get it right 100% of the time. Sometimes we win, sometimes we don't. We just have to keep on keeping on. I hope that you can take the lessons learnt in your time with us and help the next company you join. And if there are things you don't like, take control and be the change you want to see happen.

A case study in poor leadership

Pros

- 99% of the people are awesome - For the most part, the company has, and fosters, a growth mindset - Most managers open to new ideas - CEO Transparency - Remote and flexible work - Working with driven, and skilled colleagues

Cons

- Little to no accountability from leadership - Poor financial and business planning (see above) resulted in numerous layoffs. As far as I can tell, the C-level leaders were unaffected by layoffs, beside a seat shift and an apparent promotion (?) nothing has changed for them. Not the case for the large chunk of the company who were let go just before the holiday season (Huzzah!). - Some of the least impressive C-level leaders I've worked under - CEO criticises and questions the purpose of his own departments as if he had no role in building them - Where true, clear, plans were required to achieve ambitious goals, the substitute was often corporate babble. A particular presentation about boats and 'rowing in the same direction' comes to mind - it offered nothing and was a very clear symptom of the lack of direction and skills the leadership team exhibited throughout my time there.

Hi there. Thanks for this feedback. You may recall that we did make leadership changes along the way during your time here. And will continue to make changes to steer the company in the right direction. I'm also happy to share that things are looking like they are getting back on the right track now (still work to be done as always). We have seen that the leaders and individuals are stepping up and making the right decisions for the company and taking accountability to drive the right direction. A switch was flipped and suddenly instead of waiting for some to tell them what to do, they are driving and partnering with the C-level leaders to GGSD. I hope you find the right environment and C-level leadership team to thrive under in your next adventure. And someday become the leader that you wish you head during your time at HappyCo. I know that I and many of your colleagues loved working with you during your time here.

Pros

The company has huge potential. And I believe the CEO to be talented and tenacious enough for even more success in the future. They have just restructured management and removed a few of the key individuals who I believe contributed to the negative experiences people have had over the last three years and replaced them with internal hires that are much better suited to the roles.

Cons

The culture while I was there was atrocious. People were combative, overly critical, and wanted team members and projects to fail. Teams or projects that were successful were picked apart because of how they were built or why they were built. There was no camaraderie.

I agree with you completely on middle management. It is important to make sure we continue to improve by keeping the organization as flat as possible. And the other side of the coin is to ensure that we have strong leaders that can lead and drive their teams with the customers in mind, so that we are able to continue to add value for the millions of customers that trust HappyCo. Thank you for spending the last few years with us.
