      Pros

      Some great people in wider IT and Business Small bank so very easy to have visibility all the way to the top. I used to have 1:1 with the COO of the bank. I used to frequently talk to Senior IT leadership. Global Market business have great knowledgeable people. Always ready to work with IT. Very good remuneration(best in industry) for Developers. I don’t think there anywhere else Developers can get such good salaries and bonuses. Developers are respected. Every other company that I worked with, Developers had to prove to Quality Assurance teams, Risk team and Release Management teams on the quality of work before you can implement anything. It’s the opposite here. Developers are trusted. There is no independent QA function. The design of release management is such that there is no pushback and it’s easy to implement changes. Developers rule!

      Cons

      Small bank so very less or no resources in most areas of IT apart from Development. You need to be physically visible to your Senior IT leadership to get respect and reviews and bonuses. No cutting edge work. Too much upgrades in application space and not enough in Infrastructure space. No focus on quality. Business do get the wrong end of the stick and get blamed for not testing for no fault of theirs. Many parts of IT donot understand their roles. IT strategy is never communicated. IT leadership donot have vision. Development teams will do everything to NOT focus on QA. This is also due to small teams. Culture in some pockets of IT is unbearable.. including my own area. Nepotism exists to a huge extent. Most promotions only happens in one area of IT. There is another review about absurd promotions in IT, which is very true.. especially at the top! Easy to get very disillusioned here..

      IT needs to have better vision and provide fast paced environment

      Pros

      Depending on your team, flexible environment. Amazing support from business for IT projects. There are really good hard working and professional people on the business side.

      Cons

      These are mainly for the IT side: I have seen absurd promotions. Bureaucracy is definitely there. Getting what you need can be very difficult, quite a cumbersome process. No proper investment for infrastructure. Not good hardware / working station. Monitors are terrible. No standing desk. No proper chair unless you go through occupational therapy and prove your case. Some of the IT teams are at low level in terms of technical skills. IT management does not have a vision for doing cutting edge or even adapting latest technologies. To give an example they still use previous version of windows and generally look for the end of extended support for platform upgrades, like when you really have to do it. To be fair; some of these are I think due to not having enough funds, company has not been profitable until recent years.
