Training:
- Training is minimal; the norm is to be trained with a veteran employee for at most one work week, then new hires are set on their own to make calls and start selling (with or without a license, but that must be obtained within one month)
Management/Staff:
- Management is reluctant to listen to any ideas the employees have, ending up in frequent verbal arguments which can be heard throughout the office
- Except for newer employees who are willing to help (luckily I had one), most staff is not willing to train new employees. The veteran staff is very open in expressing their disgust with new hires (which I heard on multiple occasions)
Pay:
- Employees will be set up as an Independent Contractor (10-99), as Insurhaus does not offer W-4
- Taxes will need to be paid back; as I learned that can be very expensive
- Although you are an Independent Contractor, you are required to be in the office during a set time with a set lunch
- Sales goal is set at $120,000 per month in order to get 15% commission
- There are no benefits such as health care, 401-K, etc.
Upon leaving the company:
- It is also normal that when a two-week notice is put in, management will tell the employee to leave within the next few hours (I was not expecting this, however staff I became close with told me to prepare for this)
- Documents will continue to be sent to clients with your name on them for weeks or sometimes months after you left
- Final paycheck may be shorted as they will deduct additional hours for any time you took off (although that time was previously deducted)
