Pros

Some really nice, intelligent, kind people - most of which don't stick around very long because they are chronically overworked and undervalued

Cons

Where to begin? There is no regard for staff wellbeing in any way shape or form. Staff are crammed into a tiny office that isn't fit-for-purpose or accessible. There aren't enough monitors or desks for even a quarter of the London office. Then they mandate that everyone comes in on Fridays for Insight days where everyone crams into the office and has to essentially perch on top of a cupboard to take client calls. If people don't subject themselves to this they are criticised for not being "visible". The response to high-levels of stress and poor staff wellbeing that came out of staff surveys was to introduce an appalling series of 'personal resilience' training sessions. (You honestly can't make it up. The company they use to do these also has a 1.7 star glassdoor rating and reportedly also has a toxic culture. Glad we're learning from the best!) That doesn't even scratch the surface. Projects are always incorrectly scoped and resourced because of a lack of consulting capability and experience in leadership. The burden always falls to more junior members of staff, particularly SCs, to pick up the slack and work 70+ hour weeks to deliver. Leadership seem more concerned with LinkedIn posts and attending conferences than solving the very real problems within the organisation that create awful working conditions for their own staff. If you're thinking about working here, don't.

Pros

Some nice colleagues with interesting professional backgrounds who have created supportive networks for each other.

Cons

Other poor reviews are accurate: problematic culture perpetuated by a leadership lacking in EQ and an unwillingness to hear and action feedback. Overworking is celebrated and modelled as the pathway to progression. Raising project delivery risks or people/culture issues are labeled as issues of ‘resilience’ in the person raising them. The most senior leaders openly discuss and discredit staff in open plan offices. The business model is also troubling, centred on selling expensive transformation plans to struggling councils without the credentials or capacity to deliver, due to the lack of appropriate internal operating model/resourcing structures and project planning capabilities. What is committed to the client is often irresponsible, with junior resources working ‘secret overtime’ to deliver to deadlines due to a fear of being called inefficient and not meeting the demands of their grade should they push back. This company would suit lone-wolf types with specialist interests in regeneration or some aspects of social care (but there is heavy emphasis on assuring savings plans) and not a junior to mid-level consultant or someone moving over from industry who hopes to learn consulting skills and work in a collaborative and supportive team environment.

Pros

Some very talented and decent people. Initial positive impression and friendliness. Many staff are friends and are supportive towards each other.

Cons

Toxic combination of incompetence and arrogance at many levels, with low levels of professionalism, starting at the top. Overall a quality of work that doesn’t add value. Always managing client crises as a result of poor work delivered and we were expected to put up with unacceptable behaviour from clients too. The company rarely addressed it. Long/unsociable hours seen as the only way to success. Many are early career/first time consultants/new to the UK. As a result, more experienced/senior staff can say that ICC is what ‘good’ looks like and ‘this is how it is’. Many are burnt out or unhappy. Endemic poor behaviour, culture and people practices (especially poor management that includes bullying behaviour and explicit lying and gaslighting to cover it up) alongside a limited understanding of/interest in supporting or developing people. High turnover and people leaving suddenly/without explanation. Misguided belief that away days and free food make it a good place to work. Limited pay transparency and lies also told about how performance, pay and reward really work. Promotion process is a black box, again lacking transparency.
