Sinking ship. Recent positive reviews are likely fake. Run away.

Pros

Same perks as at the majority of startups in the Bay Area: - Free lunches - Interesting market space - There are some smart people you can learn from - Work-life balance

Cons

Some recent reviews (specifically those 3 posted on April 19) seem a complete fake; a desperate attempt to hide the reality from folks who may be considering opportunities at the company, or from the investors. This behavior tells a lot about what Kespry's culture is. Please read all the reviews which real employees posted earlier in 2018 and 2019. They show quite well what really is going on, - No vision - Poor execution - Layoffs - Company culture is based on immature behavior of a few early employees who are inexperienced and incompetent - Upper management lacks basic business and leadership skills - No HR - No growth opportunities - Poor cross-team communication Lots of great people left or got terminated over last few of years. The leadership changes have made things worse. Upper management fails (marketing, sales, engineering, product), but instead of admitting mistakes and fixing the core issues (leadership and culture), the company puts all the blame on subordinates. The leadership lost trust of their employees who are completely demotivated now.

Ignorance, Incompetence and Ego

Pros

For the moment, Kespry is at the right time and place for UAS. Buoyed by the collapse of some of their competitors, the available market is growing and any real competition appears to be shrinking. Recent strategic partnerships also promise a lift in marketing and visibility for the company and its products. The homegrown hardware is quite impressive and can rival most any competitor. Staffed (for the moment) by some very smart people, they can do most anything they want in the aerial intelligence domain.

Cons

Kespry is a cluster of mis-management. In true start-up form, the initiatives to keep the company alive can best be summed up as, "everything, all at once." There is no single direction or strategy that anyone in management can point to and articulate a clear vision of what it means to succeed. Morale is in the toilet as more and more personnel find the exit. To suggest that the personalities are "strong" would be an understatement. Unless you cherish the opportunity to be micro-managed and second-guessed, this is probably not the place for you. Diversity? HR? Non-existent. This is an autocracy. Decisions, especially those made in the software domain, are often myopic and clouded by a "not invented here" mindset that prevents any real advancement and innovation.

Thank you for your feedback. While we believe that our growth and customer success points to a different picture of the organization, your points regarding focus are important. The drone industry presents many opportunities to innovate, but for a growing company, it is important to focus on what will scale, which is something we are increasing our efforts to do – including increasing visibility and accountability across teams. Additionally, we have committed to adding HR as a key function in the company.

Pros

fast paced good solid core of employees huge potential company socials intelligent and motivated coworkers competitive salaries good benefits free lunches

Cons

momentum on the downturn for last 8-12 months exec egos nice ceo but lacks experience. letting exec team ruin the company little to no opportunities for advancement not promoting from within nepotism and favoritism has set in at exec level. letting go of and losing the best employees because of this. cross departmental tension and silos - poor communications between all groups but especially product/sales/customer success lack of exec industry experience, product has fallen behind the competition turnover growing and morale dropping not a serious surveying system no matter how much you throw marketing at it. typical silicon valley mentality that they know best (think airware). renewal rates reflect this

Thank you for putting the time in to provide this detailed feedback. We appreciate that additional communication and visibility across and within departments at Kespry is valuable. We have invested in ways to do that across the company, from individual teams up to the executive team. Additionally, while we have achieved success in the mining and roof inspection industries, we recognize the need to remain focused. We have made numerous promotions in sales, engineering, and customer success – including to the leadership team.
