Pros

They've designed a great product, but Kojo's leadership is destroying the company.

Cons

Kojo is a victim of its own arrogance and rapid rise to success. The company was founded by a team of ivy leaguers with brilliant minds and ideas on a mission to " make it easier to construct the built world around us." Translation= we want to make it to 10 million in revenue so we can sell off the company and cash in as quickly as possibly. They've done a great job of building the product, but somehow they managed to convince themselves up until 2023 that they have no viable competitors who can do what they do. Their astonishing arrogance has led to a series of intense course corrections in their value prop, leadership, and beyond. 2024 was supposed to be their year of hitting startup unicorn status by surpassing 10 million in value, but instead it's begun with mass firings, internal dismay, and employee exodus due to a horrible rot from the top. They are firing their best talent or forcing them out. Exasperating their problems is a self-absorbed leader at the helm who is mostly concerned with securing her next interview in Forbes magazine or CNN. She loves to boasts of all her media accomplishments, and her open communication policies, but the only time you'll hear from her is at the monthly all hands call where she loves to hear herself talk for most of the meeting. She also can't be found around the holidays to wish her employees a merry christmas or happy new year. Completely a mouth piece for the organization vs a actual visionary leader. Kojo truly is a train wreck right now.

Pros

Remote work Unlimited PTO Noting else

Cons

No direction from leadership Layoffs Sales team missing quotas Some AEs will only take meetings that are already fully qualified and ready to buy. It’s like handing off meetings that are already closed. They would rather not handle the sales process themselves. Definitely stay away from Kojo. I sourced 1 closed-won deal in the month that I was there and got let go.

We appreciate you letting us know your feedback following your layoff experience. We were not anticipating a restructure of the SDR team at the time we hired you, but recognize that led to a suboptimal experience of onboarding and exiting in short order. We wish you the best in your future endeavors!

Kojo is Failing

Pros

There were a lot of great people who worked at Kojo. Sadly, the majority have either quit or have been let go due to factors outside of their control.

Cons

Where do I begin? This review is strictly for sales as I am sure things might be different in other departments. During the interview process, I was lied to about what the role would entail and how well current reps were doing. When I started, some of the reps on our team were part time Yoga instructors so these reps were only able to work part-time. I was shocked they were so desperate to hire sales reps. I am sure my manager who was hired the same day as me was shocked as well putting this person in a really bad situation. The company made a lot of mistakes when I first started and they did admit to it but they ended up piling on more mistakes to cover up the mistakes they previously made. The issue is leadership really has no clue what they are doing. They look at sales as insignificant ponds who are not performing well because they are simply idiots. They hired a bunch of new reps in 2022 who never made a sale and were later fired after given the chance to go through onboarding twice. They had no hope they would sell in the first place since their quota was based on the number of demos they could set and hold as opposed to actually closing deals. They have decided that the issue is just that they hired bad sales reps so they created a new "strategic sales" position as if that is going to change anything. Sales have plummeted because leadership has decided to launch a bunch of new products and add-ons in hopes to upsell current customers. The issue is that all the new products only do about 80% of that it needs to do and whenever they make an update, there is a new issue that arises so many companies are just simply waiting around. This must really aggravate leadership because from day 1, we were told that the product "sells itself" and "there is no competition" which is a flat out lie. How anyone in leadership can really believe that is a huge red flag. Since working at Kojo for only a year, there have been 4 people in charge of sales and each one is worse than the other. The one who really allowed sales to tank I am sure promised leadership the moon and stars but had no plan to actually execute on what they promised outside of taking better notes in Salesforce. The company is grasping at straws giving bogus awards to family friends of leadership for doing the bare minimum. What the company deems as a success is an absolute joke. I do hope that the new person in charge will promote the only person in leadership that has any clue what they are doing and is probably the only person that can turn sales around. I really hope they do. This company is so desperate, they are reaching back out to reps who quit or they fired begging them to come back telling them to name their price and everyone who has left is so happy they did. It pains me to write this review because the idea for this product is a game changer for the industry and its a product long over due. The execution though is the problem. If your Head of Product/Technology leaves, replace them! Do not put someone with no experience in that role! I truly hope this review will light a fire under leadership and will make sure that they quit promising the world to reps to get them to stay or be hired without planning to ever actually follow through on your promises. There will be a mass exodus if you do not treat your reps, specifically your SDRs, much better.

While we’re glad to read that you believe in our product and the impact it can have on the construction industry (it truly is a gamechanger!), we’re disappointed to hear that you were unhappy while a member of our Sales team. We are doing something new in our industry, and our goal is to foster an environment of innovation where our team is empowered to experiment and fail and then grow from the experience. This style isn’t for everyone – to be successful at Kojo, our team members must be highly driven, impactful, and accountable so that we can build something that truly changes the construction industry. We are proud of the high performance standards we have for our team and our rapid rate of growth as a company. Our new CRO comes from building multiple successful revenue organizations at other tech companies, and we will continue working to ensure our sales team members are supported and understand our expectations.
