Very disappointing

Pros

free meals, not much else to be said as far as the Grand Geneva. I hear that the other hotels take better care of their team.

Cons

Little work life balance for hourly and managers, the Directors barely work. they only show up when the GM is around then hurry up and leave. Staff is not supported by lazy upper management who only work Monday - Friday 8:30-5:30. Very high turn over from hourly staff and lower level management, pay and benefits are below industry standards. Every holiday it is required to work, 4th of July, Labor day, Thanksgiving, Xmas, Nye, Easter, Mothers Day. Nothing is done if you go to HR about the managers. HR is friends with all the upper managers I think they call themselves EOC.

Pros

I really can't speak of any pros.

Cons

Strong favoritism, low pay, forced to know many cities and many different hotels, HORRIBLY outdated computer systems, incompetent and absent managers, inconsistent schedule that constantly changes with minimal notice.

Marcus Hotels Response

We apologize for our delayed response. Marcus Hotels & Resorts takes associate feedback very seriously and we wanted to ensure we thoroughly reviewed and addressed your concerns. We have discussed your review with Human Resources and leadership for our reservations (contact center). Working in a central reservations office for several properties means that we ask our agents to know many hotels and cities. While we always try to support the initial and continued training needs of team members sometimes individuals need additional assistance which we eager to provide. If someone finds a position is simply not a good fit we are happy to look at other opportunities within our hotels. Regarding your concerns with our “low pay” we regularly check our wage scales to ensure we are as competitive as possible in our market and for our industry. We also offer development and advancement opportunities for those seeking to increase their income potential. At Marcus Hotels & Resorts we do our best to provide a quality employment experience. We offer an open door policy for associate feedback, annual associate opinion surveys and a dedicated associate relations telephone line for those that feel we are not living up to our goal to be an employer of choice. We encourage you to reach out in whatever manner you prefer and speak with someone about your concerns. Our associates are truly our most important asset. Thank you, Human Resources

Pros

Marcus has managed to employ many great, dedicated and hardworking people from the stewards to management, many, if not all of the hotel level employees take great pride in the job they do and are fun, energetic, enjoyable people to surround yourself with on a daily basis. Marcus is an operations company, and if you're interested in developing in Hotel Operations, you can find yourself on a path pretty easily here, particularly if you're open to relocation. In Milwaukee in particular, the Marcus name is respected and a city institution.

Cons

Marcus is an operations company, and that's great if you're interested in hotel operations. If you're not, there is no real opportunity for growth of development. Restaurant management, HR, Marketing, Sales - you can find a position in these areas, but will likely see no true interest in developing a career path from your superiors. Furthermore, if you're interested in your own professional growth, you're on your own. The unspoken mantra here is "if you don't like it, you can leave it." And there's not much desire to retain talent - despite the obvious benefits of retaining young talent and developing it. Work/life balance for anyone at the management level is difficult as well. Every department is understaffed and over-demanded. It's expected in the hospitality industry that work/life balance won't be perfect, but a great company would make the effort to make work more welcoming.
