Pros
Excluding the owners, the team is small, personable, and fun to work with. The starting wage isn’t bad. Beyond that, there are very few pros I can cite.
Cons
Over the years, I’ve developed a belief (or a compass of sorts), that I could succeed in any work environment – granted I possess the basic skill sets required of the work – insofar as I could demonstrate an eagerness and capacity to learn, prioritize collaboration, and so on and so forth. The owners of this shop – a miserable, burnt-out, highly dysfunctional married couple – proved that belief wrong. They are the kind to rule by fear and believe publicly shaming employees is a good strategy for keeping them on board. Almost every day, I witnessed Mike or Heather harass, embarrass, and/or insult a member of the team (for matters that could’ve been avoided if expectations were clearly communicated and proper training was initially provided). Simply put, they are impossible to please, and aggressively seek out conflict for the purpose of intimidation and belittlement. I tried to discuss my concerns with them – and for a few days things seemed to be better – but they quickly regressed to the old pattern of behaviors. Ultimately, they forced me to walk out (which I’ve never done before and was far outside something I might normally do). Between the bad reviews and high turnover I sort of read the signs on the wall, but still believed I could forge some sort of common understanding and goodwill. You have been warned, proceed at your own risk.
