Pros

Decent health coverage as well as 401k and pension

Cons

Seems management heavy and more job classifications are now “salaried, exempt” status which is strictly for the benefit of MSTS. Management just changed the overtime pay so that the employee must “give” the first 5 hours of overtime for free, yet, if the employee needs any personal time they are required to use their paid-time-off hours. Very unfair practice.

Pros

For the last couple years MSTS is focused on continuous improvement initiatives, building business and hiring. The majority of individuals are extremely busy with everyday work while trying to find efficiencies, learn new processes and cross-train. Senior managers are approachable.

Cons

Although positions are opening throughout the company, many of the positions are middle to senior level so those who want to shift into new careers will either need to take a level & pay cut or simply aren't candidates. Mgrs. don't appear to trust nor have the time to throw wanting members into the mud to develop and to be there to ensure they (emp & mgr.) don't fail. Many employees only see and know about their tight-knit department.

Horrible Middle Management

Pros

Benefits, Health Ins, 401K with matching 3%, pension, job security (they won't let go even the most incompetent useless employee)

Cons

Employees are promoted based on how much they are liked by management, not by their ability to lead. Poor performers are as likely to be promoted as anyone if they know how to fawn over the brilliance of their manager or get on their social calendar. This creates systemic hate and discord among the troops and beats down moral. But upper management and HR refuse to acknowledge that this is happening so it goes on and on. More employees want to leave than stay. Professionals and employees with a high work ethic cannot tolerate being beaten down and not listened too by these "well liked" incompetent non-leaders so they eventually leave. Long term employees spend lots of work time dreaming and talking about the day they can retire. They hate it there. When I run into a current MSTS employee in town somewhere, zero of them have had anything positive to say about working for MSTS. This all applies to the previous employer NSTec also.
