Pros

Struggling to find a pro - I would rather remain unemployed than risk mental health issues after working with this CEO.

Cons

This is no isolated issue. Every person who walks through the door whether it be year one or year ten of this company quits in tears and mentally destroyed. Don’t think it will be “worth it” to get a name in the industry. This is no legitimate company it’s just the CEO and a staff member and a multitude of lies of how big the company is. There is no business case, just a dying database and a washed up rich kid CEO pushing lies to try and squeeze money out of designers or sell the database to anyone interested. He is laughed at in the industry behind his back so don’t align yourself thinking it will help you break into fashion. You will be underpaid for the hours expected, demanded to be on call 24/7 yes sometimes at 2am and on bank holidays with no compensation and receive obsessive/compulsive rant like bullying text messages day and night from 5am onwards. It is NOT worth your sanity; no human being should have such low self esteem they think this treatment is ok. Worst part of the job; the lies. Lies about website traffic, lies about how many are in the database, lies about when payments have been made (so many people and companies went unpaid due to unethical business practice), lies to obtain grants - and you will be expected while working here to recite the same lies and dig yourself into a moral hellhole of lies to get your wage. Avoid avoid avoid!!! Do your research reach out to past staff on LinkedIn - they will ALL tell you the same story. I challenge you to find one staff member to say something positive of the CEO and the experience they had with this company. Never resign before getting your last payment and never work on a contract level for more than one week at a time without getting payment or you will be left empty handed.

NOT JUST A LABEL | Beware of Joining this Company

Pros

The company ethos is what drew my coworkers and myself to the company, many independent designers have been helped by the brand, through making an online virtual look book. The company has one employee who has stayed for more than a year.

Cons

The business makes money from the designers on the platform, however, the owner has taken liberties with community numbers and has lied to clients about specific reach and return data to the point of being unethical. Employees are told to lie to clients and to designers to better serve the company. The company claims to be about sustainability but no where in the day to day does sustainability fator into the business practice. The office doesn't even recycle. On a corporate level, employee resources are non-existent and there isn't human resources person to go to when questions arise, such as when an employee got bit by the boss' foster dog, or when members of the team are laid off. Office hours are strict and there is little flexibility when it comes to even senior management breaks. Corporate culture claims to be acting as a start up, with heavy work-load and after hours expectations. The company has run for years using free internship labour and has survived for 8 years by calling itself a startup when it would more accurately be called a small business.

Pros

The day-to-day work at the company is varied, and the core reasoning for business (supporting young designers) is a very good and necessary cause to be working for. The content creation is interesting and exciting.

Cons

The company turn over is extremely high - over 85 employees and/or interns in 8 years. The owner and CEO is overly controlling, and creates an unpleasant environment to work in, with a lack of trust, lack of appreciation of employee contribution, and degrading attitude towards his employees. Almost every employee during my time there felt bullied and lost some confidence in their abilities. His attitude towards the community of designers and external clients is also not conducive to good long-term relationship building. Often it was 'do as little as possible for as much money as possible'. There were also extremely questionable practices in the accuracy of reporting statistics and business information portrayed as facts.
