    Mentorship Good introduction to policy work Scope to really make an impact due to constantly shifting circumstances (helps in future jobs)

    Cons

    Dpt of Industry was a bit chaotic and unprepared to accept grads Lack of structured training (aside from diploma) Graduate diploma a waste of time

    The salary is very generous, lots of opportunities to network and get involved in government events

    Cons

    Somewhat stressful and relies on ministers and government bodies getting back to you.

    - Flex leave - Decent pay and super - Job stability - Most people are good to work with and helpful - Interesting projects - A lot of hard-working temp and contract staff

    - Limited opportunity for development, especially when at a 3/4 grade - tend to get knocked back for requesting training and development opportunities (with the excuse of lack of funding) when several members of senior management are getting entire masters degrees paid for by the department - Unnecessary and overly complex processes - Certain managers are difficult to work with and provide little to no direction on...

    I worked at NSW Government full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

    Flexibility for different lifestyle needs. Mobility in portfolio areas. Lots of interesting subject matter areas. Work with people who are vocational by nature and inspiring via their deeds.

    Cons

    Difficulty in the higher grades for recognition of skills particularly if you are female. Tendency to devalue experience or overlook change agents in situ.
