Traumatizing experience/bad place to work

Pros

Absolutely none. I wouldn't want my worst enemy to work here.

Cons

I was hired on the basis of having a bachelor's and master's in law as a paralegal. The first red flag was that 7 other people started on the same days as I did for the same position - paralegal. After an hour in the office, we all found out it was a glorified call center. At the time, the COVID outbreak was still very much alive and the UK had the highest case rates. We were forced to go to the office and half of the office ended up getting COVID. The team leaders that were overseeing the client care team (Harry and Guy) expected us to work while we had COVID, which for me personally was unacceptable and impossible as my symptoms were quite harsh. No sympathy or compassion at all, all they care about is getting money while hiding behind ''good cause cases''. There were a couple of employees who were promoted 3 times within a year, mostly male. It's a know fact around the office that if you want to progress you need to kiss assess to get there. No legal knowledge was required. I did not study for 5 years law to be answering phone calls. Also, some of the ''paralegals'' had majored in science, architecture, or IT. I think that says it all. This place was quite a scam. They should not be hiring people with legal education and background for such roles. The only reason they are doing it is to they can bill it to their clients and make more money, which is quite pathetic. The financial remuneration is quite low for a paralegal in London, but is decent for call center operators - at the need of the day, that's what you are doing. For me, personally, it didn't make sense to stay a job that pays £24,000 per annum after paying 5 years of law school, while knowing unless I am a man and very friendly with management, I won't be able to progress. If you want a good job, good working environment, benefits, and peace of mind, I wouldn't recommend working here. They don't even pay any sick days and the private medical insurance they advertise in their job descriptions is granted to you after 6 months. They do not only scam their clients, but also their employees. And please, whoever responds to this review from PGMBM, spare us your lengthy paragraphs where you are going to say that you do not understand where is this coming from and act all surprised. You can see many similarities in the reviews. And no, the internal surveys do not count, because people like that hated this job, didn't even stay there for more than 3 months. The results you get are probably from the ''friendly employees'' that get promoted every 4 months.

Pros

None at all. Genuinely avoid.

Cons

I entered the company on the pretence of being a paralegal, however, immediately we all found out it was a call centre. The management was horrendous with the quantity of calls being made as the main indicator of good performance. In the time I was there was no inkling of legal knowledge being put to use. The routes to promotion are simple: look a certain way and be extremely friendly with the male management staff... Finally, the pay is awful.

I am really sorry to hear that you did not enjoy your time with us at PGMBM. We are clear in the job description, and during our interview process, that the initial focus of this role is supporting our clients throughout their litigation journey, and that our main tool of communication with them is the phone. Our clients are always our main priority, and our accessibility to them is of paramount importance. The quality of the calls is indicative of how much care and support we are giving our clients, so we believe that this is one of the ways that we can fairly measure a Paralegals performance. I am surprised to read your comments about routes to promotion. Our team at PGMBM, at every level come from a wide range of diverse backgrounds, age groups, and different career routes. I oversee our bi-annual performance review and promotions process, and the only thing that the people who are promoted have in common is that they are fully committed to giving our clients access to justice and are the most talented people in their areas of practice. We benchmark our pay bands bi-annually and based on this in-depth research, we believe that the pay, along with the suite of benefits that we offer, is fair for the level of experience our Paralegals have. We thank you for you advice, though we see no cause to take it, and wish you the very best for the future.

Pros

There are none. Absolutely none.

Cons

The worst professional experience I have ever had. I struggle to call PGMBM a law firm. It's a hellhole. It is completely dysfunctional with absolutely no organisation, no management and zero competence. Bullying is rife to the extent that serious allegations have been made against individuals and the firm as a whole. Absolutely nothing gets done about it because the men in charge could care less. I have never witnessed this level of misogyny anywhere in my life. It was awful especially when it was emanating from one of the dumbest lawyers whom I have encountered in my life. They bring the most ridiculous claims to court. They have never won a single case nor will they ever. Just do not work here. They are also hiring because they fire people within their probationary period. Stay away.

I was really surprised and concerned to read this review as it describes a culture that is totally opposite to the one that I have been working in for the six months that I have worked at PGMBM. As the company began to grow rapidly, the senior leadership team acknowledged that there was a lot of work to do on fair and transparent processes, policies, and procedures. That’s why they hired a team of senior experts to help build the framework to embed these into the business. We have rolled out a lot of new initiatives and ways or working. We have also introduced a staff survey and feedback loops in listening sessions where we can talk to staff directly about any concerns. As you will have recently seen, we have just helped our clients win a settlement against BA and we are continuing to support hundreds of clients in receiving the justice they deserve. The language that you use throughout your review is disparaging and insulting to your former colleagues; I am sorry if you found this environment difficult. With regards to your allegations of misogyny and sexism, they are not claims I have heard from anyone else. The senior leadership team has a 50/50 split of men and women, and I am confident that the members of the team will confidently raise concerns if they witness attitudes like this. Our team here are passionate, professional, committed, and ethical. Law is not always the most supportive career to women, especially those who have children. However, we are committed to offering staff flexible working practices, paid time off for dependents, six months paid maternity leave, and we will continue to look at ways we can support women in the business. I have two young children and have been given full support to manage my diary in a way that means I can fulfil my role and make the school runs. This isn’t something women are offered very often but everyone at PGMBM went out of their way to support my commitments to my family. We have always had clear whistleblowing policy as well as disciplinary and grievance procedures. We also have a clear exit interview policy, so I’m disappointed that you did not feel that you could raise any of these concerns through these channels rather than raising them here. I would like to investigate your allegations as we take these things very seriously at PGMBM. I would encourage you to reach out to me via email. Zoe, HR Director
