Pros

Fun to develop Customer and pet relationships .

Cons

A company culture that is full of dishonesty, very poor communication from corporate in roll-outs, no clarity, people are not treated consistently well, P&Ls are 4 months behind , sales budgets are set unachievable having nothing to do with trending data, IT loses store information and sales and crashes on a regular basis, HR is very unprofessional; also maintains a personal relationship with the CEO so is never corrected. Revolving door as they do not consider their employees an asset. Bonuses were removed in lieu of putting in new floors in all locations .

Pros

The customers and their pets hands down. The staff.. (at that time) Pets being allowed in the store and building relationships with them.

Cons

When I originally came to Pet Pros, they were going through a similar managing style as they have been this past year. They were able to recognize that and place individuals in the stores to rebuild what they were all about. The health and wellness of their customers and employees. Along with building exceptional customer service and product knowledge. Today, that is the very last thing on their mind. I once had a HR rep ask me, what do you want us to do about it?.. um, gee, I don't know, isn't that why you are HR and get the big bucks. What kind of HR are you?! The management team has become controlling and belittling! Corporate doesn't do a thing about it. Funny thing is, upper management has even stated it is all about how you make it look to the big wigs. So as long as they do not get involved with the stores and employees specifically, and continue to send "HR" who has never worked through an issue of conflict... things will never change. Get out while you still have your pride and dignity in tact. Not to mention the pay is horrible, salary is even worse and you are reprimanded anytime you take a vacation.

Pros

-Pet food and care knowledge is amazing has helped me a lot since leaving -My co-workers were A+ people who were so supportive, my assistant manager was the best employee this company ever had, great mediator between manager and employees, neutral and professional, and the customers LOVED them! -Getting to see the four legged customers everyday made the job really worth it -The discount was pretty great -The pay was okay for retail because as long as you had a great staff with you work was, for the most part, fun.

Cons

-UNDER STAFFED. -Not given enough hours for the whole store. -Too much corporate involvement, everybody could feel the suffocation of corporate trying to get all the stores to conform to the same "Petco" like store even though every store has VERY different clientele. -Last year they "revised" the options for dog and cat food and making it so some foods weren't available at all in our system, causing us to lose lots of customers. -No support from corporate, we would get some customers who would yell at us and curse at us, and corporate didn't support its employees, THE PEOPLE WHO MAKE THEIR BUSINESS RUN AS WELL AS IT DOES. -Though my co-workers were awesome, my manager was not, they were manipulative, insulting, and customers complained about them to me and my co-workers on a regular basis. -High turn over, i know this is par for the course in retail but there's a reason for the high turn over here... -Managers expect your whole life to revolve around this job -Management was always trying to work us on only one day off a week, causing lots of human error(I know that sometimes these situations are necessary, but it was VERY rare that me and my co-workers got two days off a week) -I didn't get benefits, but from what I heard, it was expensive and not a good value for the money. -You can work your way up to manager, but that's pretty much it, most of the Das have been there for a long time -Corporate is very dated and old-fashioned and don't understand that the technology available today can only HELP their business -The corporate office is very small, in a bad way, when I left last year there was still only one person in HR and IT considering they had about 23 and counting store at the time, the demand was too high for having just one person in those departments -Frequent buyer programs were glitchy and customers did not like them, many stopped shopping at our store because the frequent buyer program is so confusing and not worth it.
