A Disappointment

Pros

One of the most diverse places I have ever worked. Talented coworkers. Great pay and competitive benefits, like 401K match.

Cons

Very toxic work culture. Inexperienced leadership that lacks accountability. A lot of "mission" talk with nothing to back it up. Great onboarding experience to get you in, but no consistency after. Extreme favoritism and a lack of transparency from leadership. There is no psychological safety. The company lacks much of what it endorses as values or best practices in its own product and trainings. It is a company attempting to create "better work cultures" with one of the worst cultures I have experienced.

Harmful Culture Masked with Toxic Positivity & Impactful Mission

Pros

The employees are the best part of Praxis Labs. Many of us are ''underdogs" in the Tech world - who pour ourselves into the mission. The company offers great insurance, passionate & diverse coworkers, remote opportunities, invigorating tech, vulnerable internal conversations about DEIJ topics and regular retreats.

Cons

Perfectionism, extremely poor work-life balance, inconsistent and inexperienced leadership, lack of transparency and extreme favoritism.

Pros

Decent pay and decent budgets for things like a L&D stipend, 401k match. The product is incredibly simplistic and not ground breaking, which enables a quick and easy on-boarding. The simplicity is also good as a series A because we don’t require expensive engineers or talent due, but this doesn’t mean the company isn’t in a tough spot financially for 2023.

Cons

The most toxic culture I have worked at, that reeks of hypocrisy for an “inclusion and belonging mission driven company.” No diversity of thought and there is a preference for certain demographic types. The youngest company in regards to average age that I’ve ever worked at and it shows. We are filled with people who are academics or straight out of school or social work. The reason I still currently work here is because 2023 is a terrible time to find a new job, and I enjoy early stage companies which is even more dire in 2023. Firings are incredibly common, without notice or performance improvement plans. There is no circle of safety. Employees who are challengers and not as agreeable with top brass because they see issues and know we need to work different are routinely fired. There is no psychology safety to experiment and to think like scientists, but you are a better match if you are a militant ideologue for social justice. The amount of firings for black males in particular continues to be alarming. No product market fit, only able to land deals with investor intros through favors and personal wins. Compared against other DE&I or well-being companies, we are seen even more as nice to have than other like minded organizations in this space. Low ARR and a high burn rate. Investors have punted the Series B for this year so unless serious layoffs are made, I’m not sure we will make it through 2023. The most inexperienced group of leadership that I’ve seen in my career. The good leaders seem to not jive with our young co founders (one is just over 30 and the other is in her twenties) because this is essentially the co-founders’ first real corporate job. The c-suite members who seem to have at least some experience and could fix things have either stayed quiet and drink the kool-aid or they have left.
