Pros

- One of my managers was outstanding. They taught me so many transferable skills that I continue to use. - Useful career experience, especially for those interested in continuing on in ESG.

Cons

- Inappropriate comments to lower level staff and frequent microaggressions towards the small amount of POCs, even from HR. - A total lack of transparency. After working 2+ years, I didn't even know what a project budget or SOW looked like. It felt very confusing to have the majority of client burden sitting on my shoulders without knowing any of the behind-the-scenes. - There is an overwhelming resentment from upper management when staff leave. As a company with such high turnover, you would expect there to be some reflection as to if that resentment is actually helping company culture. - I heard of an employee who worked the full 2021 calendar year and did not receive their annual bonuses that were given out a week before they left. That left a sour taste in my mouth and shows how it's an you vs. us mentality once you vocalize concerns or submit your two weeks. - I once expressed a negative experience with HR about a manager and HR turned around and told that manager without letting me know. I understand that its HR's role, but for such a small company (at least at the time), it was slimy. - There were promotions dangled over my head while others were promoted under the rug. - There are clear favorites. No questions asked.

Pros

Important and fulfilling work. You learn marketable skills in the ESG space. WFH flexibility. Thorough and quick COVID response.

Cons

Extremely (embarrassingly) low salaries based on the current market. Slow to promote and clearly play favorites (most of whom do not deserve the praise). Issues brought forward to managers are not addressed and instead are dismissed and shoved under a rug. Undergoing a mass hiring without any formal training or onboarding process; new employees are basically on their own but older employees are too overworked to help onboard. At the same time, there is also a mass exodus occurring. Many mid level employees are running for the hills. Lack of diversity at senior level. It seems there may be a gender pay gap…it should also be noted the HR hiring team apparently asks new hires not to discuss their pay with others. Everyone is overworked. Managers are unable to manage client expectations. This may be because most of the managers have zero formal management training and should not be in their positions. Toxic positivity culture. You have to pretend to be happy when in realty MOST employees are miserable. Constant gaslighting on utilization rates, workload, and salary. All in all, run and don’t look back.

Pros

Many opportunities to impact lasting change with clients commutes to energy efficiency. Very passionate and intelligent CEO. Motivated and agile data team, thriving office culture in Falls Church.

Cons

Engineering manager in Minneapolis is arrogant, opinionated, and actively undermines confidence of supporting engineers and consultants. His time management is poor, and often changes his mind on deliverables each meeting, making his expectations very difficult to satisfy, often at the client’s expense. He often talks over, or down to people, and throws tantrums when his ego is challenged.
