Pros

My immediate team were lovely, my manager was so supportive and flexible.

Cons

There is an awful bully culture. We were meant to be experts in our field but we’re constantly belittled, questioned and spoken to badly and made to do what other teams wanted. All they want to do is scare and upset supporters into donating and then the donations are spent on contractors that charge crazy hight amounts of money despite there is teams in house that could do a better job.

Awful employer

Pros

Helping the animals but that's even difficult with being shut more hours than being open now (in a 24h period). Senior management are too bothered about keeping their empires building than making sure we can cover more hours rescuing animals. I know that is negative too!!

Cons

Bullying by the Human Recources (HR) department is wide spread and quite out of control. I truly believe they actually think they're beyond accountability for how they treat staff

Pros

Helping animals. Working with some lovely dedicated people.

Cons

Bullying techniques, if you have a voice you are penalised, CEO should not be allowed to treat people how she does. Complaints ignored, extremely high staff turnover due to lack of communication and support. The most toxic workplace I have ever experienced.

Pros

Animal rehabilitation, unique experience, skin thickening. Some colleagues were genuinely kind, compassionate, and good people.

Cons

Despite there being some truly wonderful members of staff at this branch and unignorable about were cold and unfriendly if not malicious, cruel, and toxic. Management has no idea how to support people with mental health issues or disabilities; I faced stigmatization, bullying, and eventually social isolation due to both management and my peers, management even had the cheek to ask me how they should support people with neurodivergence and/or other associated conditions and disabilities. There was gossiping at all levels of the organization in my unit specifically the staff group chat was used merely as a way for staff to be belittled, criticized, and degraded staff members who were not on-site or working usually about issues that were not brought up by Senior staff or management but was just the impossible standard of peers that they couldn't even hold themselves too. There was poor line management which resulted in nepotism, double standards, and a blind eye turned to bullying of staff when the toxic environment resulted in the resignation of the target of said bullying the antagonising just moved to a new colleague. Management prioritizes keeping face and pushing things under the rug rather than conflict resolution or dealing with issues. I observed the above both first hand and being directed at others both in my unit and others. Not only does this branch have these problems but there is a major disconnect and utter cluelessness about what it is like to be on the frontlines of animal rehabilitation as well as senior colleagues would completely misrepresent dynamics and experiences on the unit to both management and HQ. The bonuses that were provided were either non-existent or just an insult, The RSPCA takes advantage of people's passion and commitment to the animals and the intrinsic reward of helping animals in need to take advantage of their staff and underpay them. Management will use unethical practices to try and push staff out rather than supporting or dealing with problems. My mental health suffered incomprehensibly because of my peers and colleagues. There was a complete lack of mobility within the company, especially when working with the types of animals I was working with. All this doesn't even touch on the painful realization that HQ says this is a charity for animal welfare but its priority is their trustees and the welfare of just dogs.

Pros

Pay on time. Nothing else is good here

Cons

Worst place i have worked at. Animal care standards are extremely low (and they are a renowned charity for animal welfare). Their policies are unprofessional, they love to hire people without any experience over experienced people and then you end up with a lot of staff that compromise the animal health and well being because they have no idea what to do. People are lazy and want to get paid for doing nothing. Super toxic environment between all the staff, including management, bullying is allowed and there are no disciplinary actions taken even after years and years of the same toxicity and affecting people's mental health. Good staff leaving because the company cares about preserving useless, incompetent staff than quality staff. If you really love animals and appreciate your mental health, never work with the RSPCA. This charity gets a lot of money but is distributed really badly and animals are the least of their concerns, so they get affected but the company doesn't care. There are people with very high salaries and do nothing of value, they have changed uniforms and re-branded a couple of times wasting money that should be used on the animals. Everything the RSPCA does is just imagine and a lie.

Pros

The animals and their rehabilitation

Cons

Everything else. Spied on whilst working, gossiped about in front of colleagues a volunteers whilst not present, bullied by management and given unrealistic expectations. Given 0 training and thrown in the deep end. When inevitable mistakes occur you’re made to feel like a burden and a liability. Working here made me the illest I’ve ever been through stress.
