Pros

In general, the staff was pleasant and upbeat. If service-oriented work is what you are interested in, they have a wide variety of groups they are partnered with.

Cons

I was only at Repair The World for a week. I had completed the onboarding process and began to come up with projects with my partner and supervisor. But on Friday I received an email saying that the director wanted to speak with me about my "fit for the role". They read off what was essentially the job description: saying they wanted someone with more ties to community leaders, who could project manage, and overall had more professional experience. They told me that would be my last day and they'd pay me for my week of work. I don't understand the point of conducting multiple interviews and checking references if not to be thorough. Putting my own feelings aside, that entire experience was incredibly unprofessional. When I asked how this could happen, they could not offer me a direct answer, I was not there long enough to give a comprehensive review. But I think this reflects very poorly on the organization. Take my experience and decide for yourself if this who you want to be your employer.

Pros

None that wouldn’t be better elsewhere

Cons

The leadership is unqualified and makes terrible decisions. They cannot manage their finances and do not value their employees. The mission is redundant with many other organizations and much better executed elsewhere. People are overworked, underpaid, and not listened to. From lower management all the way up to the CEO, I did not see thoughtful leadership anywhere.

Pros

Many really excellent people you get to work with. Flexibility when personal/family issues come up.

Cons

This is an organization that can afford to pay its fellows a living wage and is flush with millions in donations, yet pays them far below a living wage while talking out the other side of their mouth about racial equity and inclusion. They treat their employees, fellow or staff, as disposable and burn them out through inadequate support and horrible communication.... all while expanding to new cities and claiming a desire for responsiveness to employee needs...
