Pros

Richer Sounds is owned by Julian Richer, author of The Richer Way and Richer on Business. Back in the 90's / 2000's was a fun place to work. Good if you like TV / hi fi etc as you get to use some good tech

Cons

In the 90's and early 2000's was a fun place to work, still ok but gone downhill a lot. Julian himself is a top bloke but as with any company one or two snakes have slithered into his good books over the years and are influencing the running of the company in a not too positive way. As with any company emphasis has to be on a making a profit, but not " at any cost " to employee happiness

Pros

Met some decent people there. Poor lost souls.

Cons

Know who you're buying from - Richer Sounds is a company who's mentality probably got stuck somewhere in the late 90's, with some seriously questionable attitudes\working culture. It is probably the ugliest stereotype of office work put into practice, with a severe lack of ethical campas and moral code throughout the company's management team. The first thing to be aware of, is that the company's contract states that they'll only pay your first salary after two months of work (this is for administrative positions). The contract outlines that this is due to the way your commission fees are calculated, and at the same paragraph encourages you to take a company loan. Most conveniently, you will only get to see your main contract after a few weeks you've already spent at work - so you're already trapped. Most of the colleagues I've worked with at the office were taking these company loans, travel loans, other loans - it's undoubtedly the company's interest to get you to take a loan from them. Their HR (Colleague Support department) personnel even took an active approach in trying to convince me to take one of their loans after my manager failed to. Absolutely horrendous. On top of that - forget about getting your advertised salary. Not gonna happen. The company advertises a range for a basic salary which is all commission based - however it is false and you will struggle to get to the lower bracket of that promised salary in most months. The offices are situated in an industrial area based in Openshaw Manchester, an absolute ****hole and a depressing environment to work at - very hard to commute to as well unless you are based in East Manchester. The working environment is very grim, with racist and misogynistic remarks being made daily. A very poor working culture. The place is monocultural, you will find zero diversity unless you are travelling down to the warehouse. Don't even bother about reporting racism, the management team is very protectionist and any complaints will be dismissed. All and all, I've worked in many different places and without any doubt this has been one of the very worst. You cannot help but feel the company is taking advantage of you and is being very dishonest in it's conduct - which is a very difficult feeling to cope with when coming to work. Don't do it to yourself.

Richer Sounds Response

Dear D. We were concerned to read your somewhat distorted review following your very short time (less than eleven weeks) with Richer Sounds. The accusations you make regarding racism and misogyny are unfounded. As you are aware we did fully investigate your claims, this included interviewing a colleague whom you claimed was a witness along with other colleagues who were also present at the time according to the CCTV footage we reviewed; not one could corroborate your version of events. Our findings were communicated to you in writing, even though you chose to resign before the investigation concluded. We are proud to be an Employee Owned business and the comments you have made about our culture and colleagues are completely untrue. We would also like to clarify that the only reason there was any delay in you receiving your contract was that we were waiting for important documents we had requested from you before your contract could be finalized. Your manager had written to you before you commenced however, clearly setting out your hours and salary. You have completely misrepresented our offer of interest free company loans to colleagues, we certainly do not gain from them as your outrageous comments suggest. Our colleagues value the opportunity to obtain an interest free loan from time to time; particularly those who have recently joined us and may have living costs or personal expenses to cover before their first months’ salary is paid. In regards to our office location, you attended the office several times before you accepted the position and also had a paid trial day with the department you were to work in. All our colleagues who work at this location are thrilled with our new warehouse and spacious refurbished offices, which include a generously subsidised café serving breakfast and lunch throughout the day to colleagues. It is simply untrue that the advertised salary range for the position you held was incorrect. We checked this with you after you raised the issue and you conceded at the time that you “couldn’t find the advert” even though we had a copy. Although you were only with us for three months and still in training, we have checked and your earnings were within the salary range we had specified. In addition as you know, every colleague at Richer Sounds is paid the Real Living Wage as a minimum and we are accredited by the Living Wage Foundation. Your “review” has omitted to include the fact that after resigning without any notice, we have still chosen to pay your notice period as a gesture of good faith which is due at the end of June. It’s unfortunate that you now feel the need to make these inaccurate and vexatious comments on this site. Sadly, on rare occasions new colleagues find the culture at Richer Sounds isn’t for them and it would seem this was the case for you. Anyone reading the reviews on this site will see that the vast majority are overwhelmingly positive from our colleagues about working for Richer Sounds.
