Pros

Amazing end of life care for patients. Compassionate nurses.

Cons

Experienced significant issues with one particular member of the SLT, of whom the rest of the SLT and Trustees seem to fear taking action. This Senior Director micro manages all employees across the various remits they hold responsibility for with little or no regard for their professional qualifications or experience they bring to the charity. Passive aggressive attitude, bad decision making do to a lack of relevant qualifications, experience and understanding within marketing and fundraising. Within 16 months of tenure, there was a 65% voluntary turnover of staff in the IG team. Both managers left within 2 months of each other because neither could bear to work under the current leadership fearing for their mental health and wellbeing. Empire building so avoid at all cost.

Pros

Fascinating volunteers, all wonderful human beings. Ability to merchandise stock off plan and use own creativity and initiative to run the shop. Satisfaction from researching and displaying items which subsequently sell & make the charity good money. Working with volunteers from diverse backgrounds, who have interesting life stories to share, and those with special needs is especially rewarding.

Cons

Rowans job ads always mention "can do" attitude which is thoroughly exploited by upper management-zero support offered, abrupt emails and phone calls if ever you dare to ask. Any problems you have are turned back on you as though you're incompetent...I'm not. Requires many hours of unpaid overtime to keep your shop running as it needs to, to satisfy your targets and paperwork criteria. If management were kind, it would be the perfect job.

One member of the senior management team has been the cause of a catastrophic and continuous exit of fantastic staff. Senior Management and Trustees are unable or unwilling to take the appropriate action despite compelling evidence

In the meantime, we would like to re-assure you that all exit interviews are read and actioned according to their content. Again, as an existing employee, you will also know that we have recently refreshed our ‘People’ policies, procedures and processes. The following each give clear guidance and may be relevant for you: Whistle Blowing Policy, Grievance Policy, Speak-Up Guardian. In addition, you will also know that we are soon to embark upon an Employee and Volunteer Survey, as we have done in the past via Birdsong.
