Pros

It is hard to list "pros" because even though there are some pros to working here, they are greatly shadowed by the cons. Please read with caution: *Fast Paced Work Environment Oh wait that's it.

Cons

I worked here for 8 weeks. Yes, just 8 weeks before I resigned. If that doesn't speak to the cons at Rule One Proteins, I don't know what will. This company will change your perception of the sports nutrition industry in a very negative way. If you tragically accept a position here, please note that I warned you. Let's dive into it. The first two weeks will be great because you are learning, teaching yourself, and getting to know the personalities in the office. After about the 3rd week you will understand that whatever they told you in the interview was a complete lie, and terrible work environment will start to stand out. First you will learn that there is only one person you can trust in the company, that is you and only you. You need to watch what you said because it will be everyone's business. Some people will say terrible things about you to the team as soon as you leave your desk. Then when confronted about tasks or operations will smile and lie to your face. You will never have a voice, and your ideas will go no where. If you try to improve efficiencies they will be shot down faster than a fighter jet crossing over enemy territory. When I sent and email to upper management about a $200,000 sale/something he needed to approve, the email was read and then I was told by the "management " that I wasn't allowed to talk to upper management. (NOTE: I put management in quotes because all management does is watch over its "incompetent" team.) This was just one of the issues. Keep in mind this is a 12 person company. There is no organization to the madness in the office, and the training is non-existent. I understand teaching yourself and bettering your knowledge on your own. BUT when you are told you are not doing it the "right way" when you were never taught in the first place, you have to just put your hands up and say okay. Meetings are a waste of your time. You will receive an email 2 minutes before a meeting is suppose to happen. SURPRISE, stop what you are doing and come talk to me. Guess what, nothing happens in the meetings....One meeting was with upper management. "How are things going" after blatantly numbers and data was not reviewed. Everyone just nodded their head and said everything is good. The response "I think we are looking good and we should be doing a promo" THAT WAS IT! Promos are the only way that this company sells its product. They only offer discounts, and that is a terrible business strategy. Oh by the way the promos are random and don't offer value to the customer. Whatever you do, please do not work here because you will find out quickly how terrible of a company Rule One Proteins is. You can find something better, and I'm telling you that working as a janitor is better than working at this company.

Pros

Fast paced environment, competitive industry, nice office in the city of Chicago

Cons

Where to begin.... Rule1 Proteins is by far the most mismanaged, un-ethical, unorganized, and difficult company I have ever worked for. - CEO/Management - The management team (or lack there of) consists of a family who continue to prove that they do not belong in any management role whatsoever. They are not leaders, nor will they ever will be. They are lazy, have no initiative, no goals, no clear direction, are inconsiderate....should I keep going? All management cares about is stuffing their already deep pockets. The CEO will take days/weeks off randomly, often leaving the office without any direction. There is absolutely zero motivation to be productive at Rule1 Proteins. - Work Life - Make sure to bring your Advil to work.....this place is a nightmare. There is absolutely ZERO internal structure or any direction from management. What does this mean? No one can ever get answers to what the heck is going on! Departments often bumping heads trying to get some sense of direction. Since management has to approve EVERY little decision, this leads to extreme delays on projects and just downright frustration. Just take a look for yourself, Rule1 is ALWAYS behind on every major market trend. Why is this? Because management can’t do their job. Whether it be inventory control, promotions, production innovation, marketing materials, Rule1 has consistently proven to be below average. - Career Growth Opportunity - Absolutely non existent. After being with the company from almost the beginning, there was only 1 promotion within. Don’t expect to “grow” with Rule1. - Comp & Benefits - Horrible benefits and retirement plan. Rule1 is too cheap to take care of their employees. - Culture & Values: TOXIC. Where should I start? Management hiring family friends........doesn’t help THAT THERE ISN'T AN HR DEPARTMENT.

Pros

Fast paced work environment with the potential to work with people from all over the states and many foreign countries. Hands on many projects and aspects of the company. High quality, clean products. **Opportunity for business to grow and you to grow with company.**

Cons

**Those same opportunities will never happen because management can't stop getting in their own way.** Only 2 people have worked here consistently over the past 3 years, let me explain why there’s such a high turnover in the company's short 6 years: Slow to react to market trends and inability to get products finalized in a timely manner; Projects constantly on a 6+ month timeline because management will sit on and not approve projects- and be prepared to take the blame for this; Bad to horrible office atmosphere; Inconsistent and confusing priorities given by multiple people in charge; You're thrown in between family feuds and will always be the one to blame, no matter how hard you try to do the right thing; Management seems unable to make decisions on time sensitive matters, leading to problem after problem; Products consistently run out because of the approval process, or lack thereof. There are so many things I would change, it's sad to see such a great company falling because of who was put in charge now. In short- don't work here, keep looking for something better so you don't have to deal with the constant headaches. I would give 0 stars for all "ratings" sections if I could. - Career Opportunities: Horrible, stuck in the same poor system till you leave. - Comp & Benefits: What benefits? They won't spend money on you and NO you won't be traveling for events.. - Work/Life balance: There is no balance, you work till you die. - Senior Management: A JOKE! - Culture & Values: The culture is as toxic as there is, and the values are in making management more money while paying people as little as possible.
