Pros

Clients like the software, most of the employees are very helpful and committed to the success of the company.

Cons

New clients are problems that need to be solved instead of wins to celebrate. The company speaks negatively about most clients and tech partners. Like the other reviews stated getting paid is difficult and the benefits and pay are way below market value. The CEO is overly emotional and frequently cries about the “family “ culture and then makes extremely poor decisions based on emotion. The slack channel is a mix between Facebook and Twitter inappropriate and offensive posts. The executives love to hear their own voices but have no interest in listening to anyone. The culture is very unprofessional and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.

Thank you for your feedback. As an organization that began through passion for solving a problem, not a traditional business plan, ShotFlow's journey to market leadership has not been all smooth sailing. This first-time management team faced many challenges, including very limited funding and a pandemic that decimated our retail clients. Consequently, we didn't always have the proper oversight, processes, and systems in place as quickly as we wanted to. Although we certainly don't agree with all of these points, we have made tremendous strides to mature the organization over the past six months with new management hires, better defined processes, and support staff as we split off into a standalone company in 2023. Pay and benefits have been better aligned to industry best practices and automated systems are in place to reduce human error. We are not a perfect organization, but we strive to be better every day, and we always welcome constructive criticism.

Started great, but I fear for ShotFlow's future.

Pros

For the most part, a team of good people trying to stay afloat together. Experts in the field of photo studio management.

Cons

ShotFlow is run by a team that has no business or experience leading a company, and they consistently make poor decisions that hurt employees as a result. The company is unable to pay employees on time, despite management assuring us that there are no financial troubles. A few days late is fine, but sometimes we're left struggling to pay our bills at the end of the month. Sexual harassment is a regular occurrence over Slack. I don't feel comfortable opening up Slack in the morning or interacting with my coworkers. The employee responsible is a close, old friend of the CEO, who has since retired and is now on the BOARD OF DIRECTORS. Nepotism is rampant and seems to be the dominant hiring strategy. The CEO's personal friends get promotions and free reign, meanwhile the lifeblood of the company has to fear for their future. These decisions aren't based on performance. This is no meritocracy. Favoritism is the name of the game. Management treats employees with a distinct lack of respect. One employee left without notice after being needlessly berated by upper management. This lack of respect extends to management belittling both clients and employees behind their backs. They prefer to hire contractors both locally and internationally, as it’s easier to fire a contractor without cause. This has come into play multiple times. Note that full time employees aren’t exempt from being dropped without a moment’s warning or any negative feedback, however. They fired their head of sales that doubled their revenue and brought life to a stagnant company without cause. The entire QA team was fired without any plan or cause, the reason being that they intend to automate their testing. This came with no warning and no automated testing in place; in fact, conversations were underway about raises and upskilling the QA team the same week that the whole team was fired. Anyone that knows anything about software knows that this isn't how you do it. Management have now asked the whole company to do manual QA testing. Isn't that why we had testers before? Decisions like the above show the lack leadership within the development team, which is run like a boutique software company from the ‘00s. I fear for the quality of our product.

Thank you for your feedback. There have been no reports of anyone experiencing harassment of any kind, which we would certainly take quite seriously. Our company culture of mutual respect and caring is critical to our team identity, and although people are free to speak openly and bring their full selves to work, no one is ever permitted to be abusive in any way. Please bring your concerns to our management team directly since we cannot help situations that are not reported to us.

Management style lead by deception and lies

Pros

Fully-remote positions. Some team members are great to work with and are true experts in their fields.

Cons

Management is lead by deception, lies, and by a cut-throat approach. They have fired numerous and valuable team members without prior discussions or warnings while promoting messaging to team members about how “we are a family” and stating how they want to invest in your growth and skills within the company. However in reality, they have absolute no interest or desire to upskill you. On top of that, management severely lacks proper leadership and communication skills. If management has any comments/issues regarding your work, they are not discussed directly and truthfully with you. Instead, discussions and decisions are made in secret (and often against) valued team members. Salaries are frequently not paid on time, so worring about if you have enough money to pay all your bills every month is a real dilemma experienced by many workers. Management promotes a micromanaged work environment as a strength. And lastly, there is an occurrence of highly inappropriate posts/messaging across various work channels which shouldn’t be allowed in any professional workplace. It's honestly shocking how management allows this sort of behavior in what should be a professional work environment, but as demostrated above they are not professional in any sense of the word.

Regarding layoffs and firings: in the five year period from 2017-2022, the total count of people fired or laid off from the entire ShotFlow team was 4: 1 layoff in April 2020 due to COVID, 2 layoffs in December 2022 due to a change in QA strategy, 1 firing in December 2022 due to lack of performance. Although it is always difficult to let people go, this organization has done everything possible to only hire when we have high confidence in retaining that position over time. In 2022, we implemented scheduled six month reviews for all team members, and in 2023 a Performance Improvement Plan (PIP) process to ensure clear communication in cases where a team member is at risk of being terminated. We are not a perfect organization, but we strive to be better every day, and we always welcome constructive criticism.
