Pros

The #1 reason Sun Tribe is a great place to work are the people: thoughtful, smart, hard-working, and kind. A lot of companies talk about "community" and "family" but this is one of the few places I've worked where those words don't ring hollow. My boss (and his boss!) are consistently checking to make sure I have the support I need to be successful. It's a fun place to work, and everyone is really supportive -- especially important for people not from Charlottesville as they get to know the area. Family-friendly too: the policies are supportive, the schedules are kept flexible, and many members of the executive team are parents themselves. Office location on the downtown mall is a big plus, and although Charlottesville is a college town, the university doesn't dominate the way it does in other places (i.e. there are still plenty of bars/restaurants that aren't full of 22 year olds every weekend). Clean energy community in Charlottesville is strong (Apex, Hexagon, and plenty of others) so good opportunity to network with other industry people.

Cons

Everyone says this at every company, but it's true here: the work here really is fast paced. Clean energy is an exciting field, but you have to be prepared to learn a lot, and learn quickly. They try to balance it with good benefits (like generous paid vacation that you're genuinely encouraged to take), but it's still hard work. Charlottesville is fairly walkable, but there's not great public transportation. Having a car isn't an absolute necessity, but it really helps. Housing costs in CVille aren't quite New York/DC/Philly levels, but it's not as affordable as other parts of Virginia either.

Pros

Working here there are a lot of upsides - the people are genuinely great and highly intelligent, the benefits are amazing and the company encourages you to take advantage of them, the company culture encourages a lot of human empathy and compassion, and there is a lot of focus on your personal and professional development with tons of room to grow

Cons

The culture is very granola - nature, outdoors, etc - which is great! Company activities are sometimes centered around it, so sometimes people (aka I) can definitely feel out of place when my personal hobbies and interests don't align 100% with the company culture.

Pros

If you're looking for a challenging opportunity to work with authentic people interested in teaching and empowering you to do your best work and grow into a leader in the solar energy industry, look no further. Sun Tribe's work environment is a perfect mix of interesting project work and empowering team atmosphere. Working at Sun Tribe also ultimately fulfills my need to know that I'm creating an impact in my local community, the broader state of Virginia, and the greater Mid-Atlantic. The organization follows a "servant leadership" model, which is truly phenomenal and results in managers investing in their team members every step of the way.

Cons

Growing pains (like any any "new" organization). Opportunity to remote work frequently would be great.
