I worked at TAL full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

The gym, location and fitout was ok.

    Cons

The IT leadership team demonstrated a real lack of IT understanding. Something really stunk about the people in those roles. -It was very much a "boys club". "This Australian Life" -Really? You might be able to get away with that tagline if you were simply Japanese owned. -At least you would be providing Aussie jobs. When you perform underwriting in South Africa, perform claims and admin in the Philippines... and IT in India, then why would Australian Lives want to send their business to TAL?

    Advice to Management

HR should have had more of a presence over the IT department and hold managment accountable. -It didn't help that the HR IT rep was sleeping with the IT 2IC!!

I have been working at TAL full-time for less than a year

    Pros

People are very friendly and the remuneration is quite good.

    Cons

The systems and environment are very antiquated and everyone works in their own silos. The company itself is quite successful so there is an unwillingness to change and improve.

I have been working at TAL full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    Staff benefits, flexible work environment

    Cons

For such a small company change is extremely difficult

    Advice to Management

GM'S need to get a grip, no people skills, not engaging or motivating and create huge divides across areas they should be bringing together

I have been working at TAL full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Great people, flexible work arrangements available, growth and opportunities due to recent acquisitions and new partnerships. Outlook for the business is really positive and there are good opportunities available for people to move into new roles.

    Cons

Change is constant - if you don't like change it's not the place for you. Some projects take a long time to get off the ground as priorities often change.

    Advice to Management

As the company grows try to keep the positive things that make TAL a great place to work.

I have been working at TAL full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Flexible workplace, decent salary, great benefits (gym in Sydney)

    Cons

It’s a bit of a game of thrones and execs and GMs pay a lot of lip service with little action

    Advice to Management

I worked at TAL full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

It has all the right mix that staff want for flexible working.

    Cons

Managers run the business and depending who you are, is how you get treated. TAL doesn't look at complete pictures and is very fractured as an organisation. People are leaving as they have had enough of the lack of direction.

    Advice to Management

Lead from the top and let leaders lead. Your culture is failing. You need to invest in culture. LEARN!!
