Pros

Nice offices Some great people work there Interesting products

Cons

Clock in/clock out system, by fingerprint, is archaic. 5 days a week on site. Disabled parking spaces occupied daily by members of the owners family. Poor annual leave entitlement, compared to other Manchester businesses. Long working hours, 44hrs in the office minimum due to lunch break. Lack of aligned business structure. Lack of development guidance from HR. No AL or WFH from October 1st to Jan 1st. Junior members of teams are paid poorly compared to other businesses. Lack of office visibility from CEO/Owner, who’s also now relocated offshore. Very high staff turnover and poor retention of talent. Immediate family members of the owner holding roles, which goes against the company code of conduct and aligned with nepotism. Family of ownership are given priority over externally recruited salaried employees in opportunities and general day to day, such as, meeting room booking being cancelled as family members want them. Micromanagement of every aspect of business by owner. People expected by owner to be available consistently to fix very minor issues. Business focus was around a world record attempt rather than staying competitive in sales during some of peak season 2024. HR aren’t given the chance to make the changes they want to which would improve the business drastically. Staff discount benefit taken away once in notice period. No defined business values. Lack of clearly defined business strategy with no roadmap to achieve. Owners decisions leave everyone else executing his ideas and dealing with the conflict it causes with external partners.

Head office is similar to a work camp

Pros

Leaving at the end of the day (If you leave on time that is).

Cons

Senior Management will suck any life and motivation out of you. There are no development opportunities, promises are consistently made and then you are stonewalled when trying to make any progress towards fulfilling the promises. The business will take everything it can from you and pay you minimum wage to do so. The hours are ridiculously long, and you are expected to stay until everything is done - not entirely unreasonable until you factor in that most employees are doing 3+ jobs and barely being paid enough for just one. Management for management sake. - There are plenty of managers in Head Office that you just look at and wonder "what do they actually do". Managers will be so personally involved in your work, you are unable to get on with your job without input from people who don't have the skills to warrant their job titles. Every team struggles from being micromanaged which is why staff turnover is so high. Talking to your co-workers is absolutely NOT ALLOWED! (Unless you're one of the favourites, in which case you can get away with spending hours away from your desk having chats with colleagues completely unrelated to work). Aside from upper level management everyone is overworked, underpaid and unappreciated. it’s a cheap, nasty, uninspiring environment, a bit like the brand. However upper level management stroll in at 10/11am and leave at 4/5pm every day. On the dot. While the rest of us are expected to work a minimum of 8am - 5pm daily. (This NEVER happens, you always are forced to stay late due to the workload being far too high, no. You cannot get this time back). But don't worry! You will get (very occasional) free 'celebratory' meals, so that you can all be happy about Sanjay's newest Range Rover! Yay! Also no Christmas bonus, but you do get to take part in the world renowned, "Fragrance Shop Christmas Video"! Where the Owner's pay an awful lot of money to hire professionals to record their staff dancing to cheesy songs (This is mandatory). What an exciting opportunity! The office culture is one of the pettiest, slimiest ones I have ever experienced. If you are willing to spread lies about your co-workers and flirt with Directors, then you might get on here.

Pros

Occasional free 'celebratory' meals for owners / directors birthdays - or a party in the car park. Exceedingly exciting opportunities to be part of the next TFS music video - you can literally hear the CEO thinking "look at what i can make these idiots do"! Overpriced (paid for) Xmas parties at Menagerie or The Ivy - if you've managed to make it onto the list of favourites at the time - or if there's simply now a space and you're an afterthought. Why not! Free massage once a month! No wait, the bills didn't get paid. Access to the latest tools to do your job to the best of your ability! No - we're innovative without access to the innovation! Industry leading sick, holiday, and bereavement policies - Said no industry ever. Access to a training budget - but you have to pitch to get your request put through by which time it's a) too late for the course / conference, or b) it's simply ignored in the first instance. Equal opportunities - If you can make it onto the list of favourites - then the opportunities are equal for everyone. A chance to make new friends! With 50 - 60% staff turnover rate in Head Office alone, you'll be sure to meet lots of new people. The opportunity to work 7 days a week whilst getting paid for 5! That's what we call "added value". To be 'tested' by Directors to see if you'll pick up someone elses mess at 11pm on a Saturday night, and wait for the thanks you'll get afterwards - real gratitude. The opportunity to learn from a leadership team you can truly put your faith in! That they'll come in at half 9 to 10am every day and fully trust your expertise to tell them what's happening in the business - because they honestly don't have a clue! The latest technology at your fingertips - no that's the fingerprint reader / clocking in / out machine so they know how much to dock your wages when you're late.

Cons

Can't think of one... More than one however isn't difficult to imagine!
