This is a long review, but I find it important to highlight just how horrible this company is and was. They laid off 200+ employees during COVID-19 and informed us of the layoffs via Slack (the instant messaging platform). No phone call. No explanation beyond a cryptic message on the Slack channel and an email with the same message. It did not even state clearly that the company was closing (presumably) forever. It said simply that Takl had "suspended operations" due to COVID-19 and we had 24 hours to turn in our equipment. That's it. No apology. No further explanation. Only by texting my coworkers and finally getting through to HR did we figure out we were all permanently fired. They later revised the message to sound more humane, but only on the Takl website. No follow up message was ever sent to employees except to inform us of how we'd receive our final checks and how to handle the expiration of our health coverage. No apology for having to make a difficult decision (because it wasn't difficult for them). Oh, and we were told our healthcare would end about one week from the date of the layoffs, during a pandemic. This was later "generously" extended to the end of the next month. In my 2 years there, there were other instances which I initially wrote off as the result of a few "bad eggs" since the team I worked with was overall a good group of folks. Such instances included homophobic, sexist, and racist jokes by some of the leadership. Also a group of men routinely opened work files irrelevant to them (which were often in the draft stages) and questioned me about it, asked what I was doing, why I was doing it, etc, and these men were not on my team, not my managers, not supervisors, not leadership, AND NOT EVEN IN MY DEPARTMENT. They did the same to the other female members of my team. It was only when my female team member told me she was being micromanaged similarly that we finally told our male teammates what was going on. They agreed that the other group of men were behaving in a sexist manner as this was something that happened to each female member of our team and none of the male. No wonder there were few, if any, women in leadership roles. Oh, and while many of us were worried about COVID spreading as we have loved ones with high-risk conditions, some of the men found it funny to start "fake coughing" on people. I was fortunate enough to find a new job at a company that has so far gone above and beyond to take care of its workers. Coming from Takl, I can now see clearly what a truly horrible group of people ran that place. There are companies out there that do genuinely care about their employees and people in general. Takl isn't one of them. Stay FAR away if they ever reopen.
