Pros

There were a lot of pros - we had a strong team and encouragement from the seniors - principals - directors. Now we can’t improve our consultancy skills in the quiet time as there is no budget and senior staff morale is low. With all the changes in the industry I feel I should be improving now in the quiet time to become better consultant for the company. A lot of the senior staff left over the last 2 / 3 years and now there is one voice who says they listen and we want to support them, but we are all struggling to see how their supportive words turn into actions as they haven’t in the last year and there is a lack of trust. I have signed up to CBT through NHS to help boost my confidence and I have borrowed money from family to get my CPD up to date with external courses as I can’t rely on my employer to develop me as a consultant.

Cons

Low pay (well below standard) Low staff morale Found out a long term staff member who always supported me was made redundant in December 2023 (along with others) and I didn’t get to say goodbye - this upset me a lot No training High staff turnover No recruitment (unless top level as advertised) meaning all junior grades will be overworked Change of toil policy to disadvantage certain disciplines This has absolutely broken my heart writing this on a public forum. I have never done anything like this before. I have spoken to my people manager / HR / more senior staff including divisional director and I don’t feel I am listened to at all. I know from speaking to the divisional director they don’t like negative reviews on Glassdoor and I am happy to come forward and speak to HR if I thought it would make a difference but am afraid I would get a disciplinary.

Lack of direction from business unit lead

Pros

Nice colleagues who look out for one another

Cons

Culture of blame Unsupported Told to increase utilisation but they dont provide work. Business Unit Director doesnt devolve work so they remain utilised whilst others in the division are floundering and stressed over where to book time. Training cancelled and even when we could be doing CDP to improve us as consultants when we have no work, we are not allowed to book time to training codes

Pros

The company does have a positive atmosphere at times and there are some good people working there. The company events are always pretty fun.

Cons

Where to start. Management had a complete disregard for mental health issues and would spend more time trying to wear you down than build you up. I had issues with how the company was run for graduates over a number of months and the issue was completely ignored. Many graduates would sit around doing absolutely nothing because the company hired too many people. Some teams were obviously more flexible and enjoyable to work than others - great if you have one of the few good managers who fight your corner, not so good if you have a bad manager. Lines of communication with my manager were non existent and they had a very dim view of mental health. One colleague I heard of said that there manager acknowledged the mental health issues in their appraisal yet said stuff like 'God you looked so miserable' and 'let's put things in perspective' - aka that it so BAD. Another colleague stated that they had an appraisal with another manager and they were bellowed at for not being good at their job despite that obviously not being the case. Company board go on about addressing the Gender Pay Gap to the company, when the board are 5 white men.
