Pros

Free coffee and tea in the break room

Cons

I was an editor. Every day in a group chat, all the other editors would make fun of the authors who submitted their content--the bad writing primarily. It sickened me, and I never did it. Some editors got on power trips and would repeatedly send back authors' work just because they thought it was funny, and then have the authors blocked, even if the authors who submitted content were trying their hardest. Take a bunch of introverts and stick them in a room and know what you get? Nobody says hi in the mornings, or bye when they leave. Nobody eats lunch together. In fact, most people eat lunch at their desk by themselves WHILE STILL WORKING. Work on the computer for 8 hours a day and your eyes and joints begin to hurt. Managers goof off, as do many employees in other departments. Daily. Pay is bad.

High level positions don't exist in the US office

Pros

There are incredible benefits. The PTO is the main reason I worked there. Everyone gets a paid month off, a very laid back atmosphere, occasional work from home days, and pizza during the monthly office meetings.

Cons

It's a real dead end. Everyone who made it to a decent position and pay would still end up quitting. The turnover was really bad with no loyalty to employees who had been there for years and none for the company bc no one would want anything to do with it afterwards. Almost all of the US positions are really low level both in pay and influence. Most of the management is in the German HQ. I was fortunate enough to have a relatively high ranking position and pay but it didn't matter bc I was basically ignored constantly. At first I thought it was weird but as people that had been there before me and had high positions were all quitting, they mentioned that very little of anyone has any say at all and most hated it. It's essentially a content mill where everyone just has to churn through so many articles. The company culture is dreary, dull, and filled with interminable boring and pointless meetings. There's no recognition if you do anything, but there's also no punishment if you don't. Nothing either way is really encouraged there with most employees just trying to make it through the day while waiting for another job offer. It really could be a great place but that's only in theory. Even with the pay (if you're on manager level) and benefits it is still surprising how a bad culture and lack of innovation, excitement, success, etc. totally drains you. They churn through clients, authors, and employees with no real concern, loyalty, future or desire to improve.

Pros

I like the fact that you can select jobs based on your interests rather than bidding or applying. I find this site to be a great way to get my foot in the door. The added benefit is that this platform is really geared towards helping you improve and become a better writer. The pay is based on your writing level, which for many, is an incentive to boost those writing skills.

Cons

Some of the clients could have ridiculous demands and instructions for assignments that aren’t even paying enough to buy lunch. Some clients abuse the system by having over-the-top expectations from writers who are not making much.
