Pros

The staff themselves are mostly lovely and are very passionate about supporting and welcoming students from all circumstances and cultures.

Cons

The leadership is non-existent. They have a strategy document which is a shopping list of buzz words and budget-focused nonsense. And the staff portal/intranet is the stuff of nightmares. You cannot find a single thing that you need. The finance processes (actually almost all processes) are convoluted, pointless and a general waste of time. Oh and HR? They won’t answer calls or emails - they will only take ticket requests through the portal, IF you can find it. The workers are mostly great, but this university is utterly bloated with pointlessness. Oh, and they offer “flexible” working arrangements that are rigidly set at 3 days on-campus with no flexibility… go figure.

Pros

The pay is great Good super Easy commute

Cons

I’m in Victoria University International so can only speak for the environment in this department. Very toxic culture. Staff are fantastic and dedicated, but the senior management are unprofessional. Employees are disrespected and mistreated (there have even been a couple of instances where people were yelled at). No opportunities for professional development, these are mostly available to senior management only. Staff morale is low. There is a general aura of anxiety and stress in the office. The leadership are checked out both mentally and physically, sending emails or asking for help is frowned upon. The pay is great but not worth the emotional distress that you will experience.

Pros

Location - being outside the CBD

Cons

Managers operate through bullying, separating you from colleagues, and making you do pointless tasks. Jobs for friends. If you have success be prepared for many people to come after you to tear you down. Insecure, incompetent managers = Tall poppy syndrome. Managers will destroy your confidence and will to live, if not your career.
