One-of-a-kind governance

Pros

+ Great family-work-life balance, supported not only by benefits, but by the culture + Meaningful, impactful and one-of-a-kind type of work + Diverse and international + Great benefits: Pension, Tax free pay, Home leave, Excellent health insurance (like: REALLY good!) + Things seem to be improving (re: list of cons)...

Cons

- Majority of managers come from the technical field and underestimate the importance of soft skills. - No "expert" career progression (probably the reason for the above) - Politics permeate even the most mundane activities. - Career progression is nonexistant at its worse, very clunky and slow at its best. - Complex governance: Decisions and actions from the are sometimes schizophrenic - Administration seems unable to manage toxic employees and under performance (at all level) - Culture: codified class system (internal/external permanent/temporary D/P/G) - Golden handcuffs

Pros

A work culture that promotes: > innovation > collaboration > engagement > ownership > creativity etc. Good benefits and Salary Nice buildings Friendly staff

Cons

> Very high work loads at times, that puts extra pressure on teams -- workload could be managed better by unit heads and above > There are some management issues but nothing too extreme > IT restrictions are high and often interferes with trying to do work

A very typical criminal organization

Business outlook

Pros

UN benefits (salary post adjustment, and other benefits) and location in Geneva.

Cons

WIPO is fully corrupt and rotten. It operates as a very typical criminal organization. Being WIPO staff I faced mobbing, sexual harassment and assault, obstruction of justice and brutal retaliation. WIPO internal justice system, is fully corrupt. Its DGs (Daren Tang - current and Francis Gurry-previous ) and senior management team simply protect the harassers and are incriminated in numerous violations including attacks on free media. IOD, HRMD, Ethics officer, Office of Legal Counsel and WIPO Internal Oversight and Advisory Committee just abuse the system with the only goal to protect the harassers. Likewise, Member States do not car and all of them just benefits the corrupt system .

Overall good place to work

Pros

The salary and benefits are very high by global scales. The experience is seen extremely highly externally

Cons

While the salary and benefits are very high, the cost of living in Geneva are equally high and largely cancel out the salary/benefits to make WIPO no better paying than any other employer Many people seem to have gotten the job through connections or a deal is made where the Director General will appoint a given person if their country agrees to vote for said Director General. Furthermore many countries lobby for a particular person to be hired which is unfair.
