Pros

Wyrick Robbins really does care about their employees. They offer perks like free food and incentives to stay with the firm and do increase your performance.

Cons

I worked for a major rainmaker who had anger issues and a seriously terrible attitude. When he would find a mistake I made, he would call me into his office and pound his fists on the desk while yelling at me. Because this was considered feedback from my boss, I could not leave the room. I stood by the door in fear of my own safety thinking he might hit me or throw something at me. Thankfully, he never did. I had been on the job only a few months when he fired me. I should have quit and saved him the satisfaction. Oh, wait, he didn't fire me. He was recovering from hip replacement surgery. He had HR fire me. I was sure to tell him about his treatment of me, but I doubt anything happened b/c of his status in the firm.

We are sorry to hear about the experience you described. We pride ourselves on being a firm where people are treated professionally and respectfully, and your experience is far from our typical Wyrick culture. We work hard to foster and preserve our good culture. We've made an Anonymous Complaint Box available to give another avenue for employees to communicate workplace concerns and issues in addition to our standard complaint procedures.

Pros

The human resources group is wonderful. The topmost leadership is good, has a company vision and cares about both company growth and the employee experience. Management certainly talks a good game re: benefits, perks and work-life balance. I do think they are well-intended and the benefits are decent.

Cons

I was offered a position in an area of law in which I had little to no experience. Was going to turn it down, but the firm convinced me that they would train me into the position and, against my initial better judgment, I took the position. In the end, they didn't train me at all. It was a fiasco. Although I don't think this reflects on the firm as a whole, I was dismayed by the bait and switch in the specific legal group.

Thanks for your kind words regarding our leadership and the HR group. We are sorry that our hands-on training environment was not an ideal program for your needs. We assign our new paralegals to attorney mentors and also give them one or two “go-to resources” within the paralegal group and or LAA group. Training in any new practice area takes time and is an ongoing process. We were also disappointed that the particular practice area opportunity we extended to you did not end up being the best fit for what you desired at that point in your career. We appreciated your candid feedback while at Wyrick and your patience with sticking with us for a while looking at alternate ways to address issues. We appreciate your feedback on Glassdoor as well. As a result of your feedback we have added more emphasis on training resources and are digging in deeper with candidates during the interview process so future new hires can enjoy the best experience possible with onboarding/settling into a new role and we can better understand and manage expectations.

Pros

Most of the people who work there are okay. Many talented and knowledgeable employees who are good at what they do.

Cons

I’ve stood by for many years before leaving this review. It saddens me to see other recent reviews that back up my experience there. A prominent “rainmaker” attorney is habitually abusive to their staff and creates a hostile work environment for those who work for them. They probably cross the line to more serious conduct on many occasions. The firm has allowed and enabled this behavior for upwards of 2 decades or more. They deserve to be called out for this. It’s very troubling that this person is still employed there. I could list more, possibly illegal behaviors by this person towards those who work for them but hesitate to do so here. What I and others have said should be enough. I feel it’s important for aspiring paralegals or legal assistants to understand what they could be getting into. Think of your “security” if you are applying for a job. Interview and quiz other employees carefully before accepting a position. This person should no longer be enabled.
