Pros

The staff are choc full of professionals with top skills and desire to provide the best service for clients and customers

Cons

Leadership cares more about their media and brand image than their clients. They make promises to clients that are impossible to achieve, or at least impossible to verify with real data. It's all smoke and mirrors, snake oil, and they lack any real substance to meet the growth goals of the clients or themselves. Stats are manufactured for the benefit of customers and not actually measured - literally out of thin air, here. (see website) Business Intelligence is non existent and without any real cutting-edge methods or strategic partnerships, they are literally unable to stay competitive. As a result, they have laid off a large segment of their staff - blaming internal employees rather than realizing in a self-actualized moment that they are just really bad at running a business. She surrounds herself with "yes" people. Doesn't want the truth, Doesn't want to look bad. The Reputation of the CEO is what customers are buying here, but she is the main problem - throwing money at every solution that looks pretty. A new shiny object grabs her attention and then another and another. Only then does management realize they can't afford to pay their employees. It's shameful really. Rich people's problems. Eventually, Brands realize Shama Hyder and Zen Media bring no real value. so they churn dissatisfied wondering where their money went.

Pros

I guess working remote is kind of cool.

Cons

Expect to get to get fired without so much as a warning or a 1:1. Don't let the positive feedback lull you into a false sense of security. You get called out in public forums by the highest level of Zen leadership in the most passive aggressive, backhanded manner for not making suggestions to utilize marketing tools that predate you your first day. There’s very much a “Yes man” attitude, especially if the client pays enough and some of them pay WAY more than others. Most of your work in social strategy will consist of justifying the underperformance of boring content by blaming the algorithm Most of your work will be in turning boring business leaders into boring influencers. Most Zen clients are only concerned with one thing: more followers. Vanity metrics rule all here. Social media managers are expected (by leadership) to create “more viral tweets” for their clients. That’s a strategy, I guess. For a company that claims they were the first social media agency, you’d think this what they’d be known for or that they'd have a more sophisticated social offering. Don’t let their responses to some of these others reviews fool you, their clients bully them for any reason. It’s disturbing. I’ve never seen clients treat an agency so poorly until I came to work here. It’s astonishing really. In one meeting, it was noted that it is understood that the highest levels of company leadership are never going to say good job. Does it really need to be that way?

I am sorry things did not work out for you. We have a team of highly-skilled professionals, and we appreciate each person on the team. In regards to clients, if someone is disrespectful, it's not tolerated. We actually just fired a new client due to extreme negativity on our first call. Appreciation and support are a priority for me and for everyone on the team. Even for those we let go, I always offer to help find jobs within my network. I do wish you the best of luck and happy to help however I can.

Growing Pains

Pros

It's an all virtual company, so all collaboration is online and you may work with people all over the world. You learn a lot from people in different areas of expertise.

Cons

The company was growing but the team was not keeping up. The workload was insane. There was a general sense of disorganization and a total lack of training and direction. There was an expectation of being "always on".
