      Uncomfortable environment, uncompromising leadership

      Pros

      - Great location, heart of the city centre - Almost all staff friendly and approachable - Passionate and caring CEO - Open plan office environment makes for easy collaboration with peers - Great opportunity to learn

      Cons

      Office morale very low, and has been for a while, entirely down to the presence and actions of the current CTO (appointed in the autumn of 2015), who has a very short fuse and very little patience. Staff members tend not to disagree nor cross paths with him when conversing, for fear of job loss or some other form of reprisal and as a result provide lip service more often than not. This will ultimately be to the detriment of the company, and sadly great news for our competitors. The CTO does not acknowledge his staff most of the time, very sad to see. These are the very people who should be looking at him for inspiration, guidance and as an effect be motivated to deliver a fantastic product and service for our customers. It's uncomfortable to be in the same office as him. There is a sense of relief when he is not present.

      Toxic and bullying environment

      Pros

      Business had a great start-up feel within the technology department; although it was immature in areas everyone felt valued and really wanted to make a difference. • Passionate and skilled staff in the technology team who want to provide the best customer journey. • Majority of senior management are sociable and truly care about staff morale. • Open office plan. • Free drinks and fruit.

      Cons

      Unfortunately, the whole culture and atmosphere has changed within the technology department since the arrival of a new CTO. Although the business needed a new direction to mature in the market sadly the CTO does not have the knowledge or management experience to execute this. On a regular basis you see him verbally bullying staff, sacking people who suggest a different vision to his and backstabbing his own leadership team. Since his arrival the environment has become extremely toxic with people fearing they’ll be sacked at any moment. • Massive job exodus within technology due to poor leadership. • No job security. • Constant bullying. • No freedom to speak openly about new ideas which may deviate away from the CTO vision. • No growth or career progression

The Technology team are so passionate about the customer and about the technology they deliver and together we can really make a difference to our customers’ car buying journey. We did expect a period of change, which will happen whenever a new leader is brought into a business and we recognise that the technology department is going through transformation with regards to culture that can be unsettling. The team is continuing to develop and with the introduction of our quarterly reviews we have already seen a number of promotions and rewards with in our Tech team. We were really sorry to read about your concerns regarding bullying. This is something we take very seriously and we would ask that you come and speak to a member of the Engagement team so we may investigate accordingly. Fostering a culture of innovation, idea generation and aligning personal goals that support Zuto’s vision is close to our hearts, if you do have concerns that your ideas are not being heard please do speak to your line manager.       The dream is dead

      Pros

      Enjoyed my work at the start. Loads of smart people, best I have worked with, great chance to learn.

      Cons

      Awful management change last year. Morale is on the floor. Can't work for people who have no respect for any of their team. The sackings and resignations are almost weekly now. The most talented people have mostly gone. Don't feel like I have made any contribution in the last six months, we seem to change our mind every week. No direction and just wasting time. Founder is no longer around and is not listening. Loads of rumours about boardroom squabbles. Horrible.
