Pros

The 401(k) match was good and they have a few locations throughout the southern Maine area.

Cons

They really don't have a clue on how to properly run a financial institution. There is no training structure for new employees at all. They partake in numerous unethical practices such as giving certain minority groups preference over others when it comes to lending. The company is understaffed for the amount of work they receive thus making everyone work two-three times harder which leads to a very high turnover rate. The CEO is very opinionated, belittles people and blatantly avoids answering difficult questions.

Pros

cPort is a collaborative, member-focused, honest credit union and you wont find a better staff. I've had 2 other jobs since college that were just fine, but since being at cPort for 3 years, I don't see myself ever leaving. The culture is something you wont find anywhere else. It is the true definition of a team player mind set, a perfect balance of working hard and celebrating victories, and recognizing that a great staff is the key to success. cPort truly cares about their staff and members and it shows. I'm proud to be part of a team that is continuously improving and changing to fit the needs of those it serves. Even though it is a smaller credit union, I know I have a future here for many, many years to come.

Cons

The only "downside" I can think of, which isn't really a negative, is that even though cPort Credit Union is the oldest credit union in Portland, we are still growing at such a rate that keeping our staff full is imperative. Having a full staff ensures we will continue to be able to respond to all members with the attention they deserve.

Pros

After working for cPort for 2.5 wonderful years, I attempted to move across the state- and in so doing, I would -sadly- have to leave my job at cPort. When things across the state didn't work out, I did not hesitate to ask for my job back. And while cPort didn't have to hire me back- they did! Because I proved to be a great asset to the team- and they appreciated me and the service I provided to our ever-expanding membership base. This is a wonderful place to work, and bank! The team, across all branches, is incredible. It is obvious that employees not only care about the success of one another, but our members as well. Others have mentioned that cPort "makes arbitrary decisions" - but this is not the case. If you understand the foundations that Credit Unions were built upon, it is obvious that we, and most other CUs, are only interested in helping members and community to make positive and sensible financial decisions. CU's DO have some liberties that maybe larger banks do not, and possibly this is where the confusion lies. I would recommend cPort to everyone. And I often do! Our management is consistently providing us with training, support, opportunities for growth, etc. We are rewarded and recognized in many ways for our hard work and dedication. We have a great presence in the community. The CEO and management are phenomenal. Everyone is vibrant, friendly, and excited to come to work. Great culture. I'm so glad I came back home to my cPort family!

Cons

We experience a high call volumes at times, and while we sincerely do our best to prioritize our members, it can be tricky and frustrating for callers. The PRO to this, however, is that callers don't have to deal with an automated machine- when they get through, it is a real live employee. Lobbies tend to get busy, too. Especially during peak days/hours. Sometimes this can create a wait for other members. But the service/experience is worth the wait!
