Following International Women's Day, we wanted to showcase our co-chairs for the Global Women’s Alliance (GWA) Indonesia, Caroline and Linawati. Their goal is to provide support to female employees, not only throughout their careers but also in balancing various priorities at work and at home. They provide regular events every month with different topics such as leadership, communication, networking, health and family. We asked our co-chairs what the most fulfilling event they’ve worked on is and why. “During 2020 we were able to still conduct many events including hosting some amazing guest speakers. We were able to invite Fifi Aleyda, a national TV news broadcaster, to share her expertise on best practices for strong communication and networking. She shared an abundance of important tips and useful information to improve our communication skills. Moreover, we also hosted Sachin Shah, General Manager of Emerging Markets in Asia, to talk about leadership. Sachin outlined his view on leadership and the importance of networking, especially during COVID-19.”
Happy #InternationalWomensDay! A time to celebrate the incredible women leaders and colleagues across Manulife who inspire, influence and impact our organization every day. For the fourth year running we’ve been named one of Canada’s Best Diversity Employers 2021. We’re proud to foster an inclusive environment where we encourage every employee to bring their authentic selves to work.
It's #BlackHistoryMonth, a time to celebrate Black culture and the achievements of the Black community, while recognizing the barriers faced to get there. As a company, we are dedicated to continuously making strides towards our goals for diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI). In the past year, we announced our goals to increase BIPOC recruitment and leadership representation, signed two pledges – the The BlackNorth Initiative in Canada and the CEO For Action in the US – and kicked off the 14th year of the MLK Scholars program. This month we will be highlighting Black employees who exemplify leadership towards our DEI mission and reflect on Black leaders who made history at our company. Meet Susana and York, our co-chairs of the Pan-Asian Community for Employee Success (PACES) in the United States. Having representation in the U.S. has been especially important for PACES this year. It helps to address the needs of Asian American employees who are facing challenges such as xenophobia, unconscious bias, stereotypes and the rise of anti-Asian hate crimes. We asked Susana and York about what made them want to become chair leads for PACES. “Being an immigrant and a woman of Asian descent; Diversity, Equity and Inclusion are dear to my heart. I’ve experienced entering a financial career at an inherent disadvantage and feel that we need to make a place at the table for Asian representation, particularly at the senior leadership levels.” – Susana Ngan “I have been very fortunate to have mentors and sponsors throughout my career, and I understand the importance of allyship. I am happy that we can have a forum to promote factors that enable Asian employees to succeed and advance in the organization.” – York Lo
