Pros
If youre like me and wish to go further into the medical field, this position is great to give you a bit of experience. Gives you a baseline, albeit simplified, understanding of how medical billing works. Also lets you gain baseline knowledge on medications.
Cons
Can easily feel like a glorified cashier at times. But the worst is this, Corporate is always pushing out new updates to their rx processing system that 90% of the time makes verifying and filling scripts a longer process with no added patient safety benefits. The hardware we use and the proprietary rx software is running on shoestrings. The amount of times that the software itself has gotten in the way of me doing my job, by way of being incredibly slow, locking up on me, or just straight up crashing, is too much to count. Top this off with Corporate constantly finding ways to cut tech and pharmacist hours while piling up more work for those who remain, you get people who really care about the work they are doing being left frustrated and easily burnt out. This is a recipe for disaster, I can easily see major filling mistakes being on the rise from this.
