What is the hiring process like at Northwell Health?

Headquarters is in Long Island for orientation and training even when based in Westchester. Expensive health benefits. Awful hiring process.

They pay very well and offer services.

Hiring process took long over a month

The people- we have a great team of coworkers who work hard to support the clinical staff and synchronize with data to provide excellent patient care.

1) Leadership would rather pay top dollar to high-paid, inexperienced consultants with no understanding of our role to click through PowerPoints and check the box for increasing efficiencies. They have no idea what they’re talking about and their suggestions make things worse. 2) the “new” EPIC leadership is unsupportive and pushes unrealistic expectations which has created a truly toxic workplace environment. 3) “Do as I say, not as I do” seems to be the motto of leadership. When an issue comes up, managers will throw out team members under the bus and not accept responsibility for the role they played in the problem, such as a too-short project timeline or not fully understanding steps/processes needed to undertake to effectively our goal. I feel like we are constantly set up to fail and leadership stays silent.

Northwell currently revamping their benefits. Friendly coworkers. Supportive management.

Sick and vacation time come from the same bank. As an employee who has been working for Northwell for 5 years, I only accumulate 6 hrs and some change biweekly. Barely a day for working 2 weeks. Also, Management cannot approve vacations unless you have the PTO hrs and the staff needed to cover. Vacation approval process is the worst experience I have ever had no matter the department I've worked in.

- health insurance/general benefits were fine. PTO accrual is fine (if you're able to take it) - potential for growth if you're related to someone high up.

- massive favoritism. head of HR hires her entire extended family to be managers and supervisors in an entity she's supposed to be responsible for. How could that be allowed/ethical? Young men are often favored due to "being cute" and "have potential" yet those with degrees and extensive experience are seriously overlooked. - the pace is grueling and unfair. training was non-existent for a while and only changed once people started write ups and formally expressing their lack of training. imagine the patient impact because you were too lazy to make sure people did their jobs right. - the process and procedures are something from 2005. They have not improved in software or policy and cannot compare with tech start ups with their innovation. Northwell always prides itself on its growth but it's all smoke and mirrors. They spend money on shiny new buildings and buying practices they've driven out of business but do nothing to provide quality behind those walls. The amount of complaints I could not escalate, or when I did, was left on deaf ears was astounding. - do not bother applying if you are a POC, especially if you are a woman of color. They talk a LOT about their dedication to diversity and yet, the higher up you go on the ladder, the less diverse it gets. You will only get promoted if you are a favorite and as a WOC it's hard to become a favorite. - Beyond that, bad behavior is ofter overlooked or accepted as "that's just how they are." I've witnessed full screaming matches from known problematic reps that were never dealt with.

-The position as an ASA in the ED easy, you just need to talk to people while navigating the jungle that is the ED where beds and ultrasound machines/EKG machines/X Ray machines are running you over, along with the patients' visitors having their legs out while sitting in the hallway.

-The ED is small, understaffed, under-payed, under-equipped for a large volume of patients that come in. Northwell would rather build high schools and more buildings rather than funding their own units with better equipment and more staff with more pay.
