      Data Scientist Interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Amazon (Sydney) in Nov 2019

      Interview

I applied online for a Data Scientist position at AWS in Sydney. The first phone interview was with a Senior Research Scientist from Tucson, Arizona and my second phone interview which was more technical was with a Senior Data Scientist from Seattle, Washington. Each took one hour. They asked many questions ranging from behavioral questions (STAR) to programming, statistic, SQL and data science/ ML questions. I passed both phone interviews and was informed to wait for the on-site interview to be scheduled in Sydney. After almost 10 days, I received an email, out of the blue, from an Intern at AWS Sydney, saying I must accomplish an assessment task for an Applied Scientist position as they’ve liked my CV! I sent an email for clarification, and it was only then that a real recruiter replied to me explaining that the first position is not available anymore and if I want to continue, I have to start again by doing the first step for the other position which was a technical machine learning assessment. They could not simply inform me before telling their Intern to send me that email! I did the test although I was certain I will receive a rejection (it was obvious they do not have any vacant position). I received the rejection email only few days after I emailed them my response. The whole process which took 2 months was just waiting my time.
