      Operations Manager Interview

      14 June 2020
      Anonymous employee
      Memphis, TN
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Amazon (Memphis, TN) in May 2020

      Interview

A recruiter reached out to me through LinkedIn and suggested that I would be good candidate for operations manager position. So I applied and let the recruiter know I applied. I was instantly scheduled for a call interview within week. The initial call interview was very informal. The recruiter, who I was talking to and different from the initial recruiter, was actually a former operations manager. So it was good to talk to someone who understood what qualities wee needed for the position. The recruiter asked me some skill based questions and one math flow question. The interview lasted about 30 minutes. Please make sure to answer in the STAR method when answering the questions. After the interview I got an email that Amazon wanted to do a CHIME (virtual) interview due to the Covid 19. The interview was 2 part math flow question that had some overtime included with it and a writing assignment. Then after the math flow question, I had 4 - 45 min interviews with the Site Leader, Human Resource representative, an off-site operations manager, and one of the Senior Operations Manager. Each interviewer was warm and welcoming. Put me right at ease throughout the process. Again it is important to answer all questions in STAR form. After the CHIME (virtual) interview, a different recruiter reached out to me to tell me the results. It was stated that the interview panel enjoyed talking to me and wanted to move to the next step of me providing information needed to make a formal offer letter.

      Interview

Assessment, written assessment, four interviews. It was a simple but lengthy process. You will interview with four different individuals, not a panel. So be prepared for a few hours spending 30-40 minutes each. Even if you nail one two or three, if one interview doesn’t go as smooth it can cause you to not get an offer.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Three part questions, and what did you learn? Even if your example was spot on with the situation task action and result they still want you to provide an explanation of what you would do differently. Be prepared for this question after examples for every interviewer. They want details and exact data and numbers.

      Application

I interviewed at Amazon (Seattle, WA)

      Interview

The interview process was professional, well-organized, and focused heavily on Amazon’s Leadership Principles. I completed multiple rounds of interviews that included behavioral questions requiring detailed examples using the STAR (Situation, Task, Action, Result) format. Interviewers were engaged, asked thoughtful follow-up questions, and seemed genuinely interested in understanding my leadership experience and decision-making process. The most challenging aspect of the process was the depth of behavioral questioning. Candidates should be prepared with specific examples related to leadership, conflict resolution, process improvement, customer focus, and delivering results. Communication throughout the process was timely, and expectations were clearly outlined. While the interview experience was demanding, it provided a fair opportunity to demonstrate skills and experience. Overall, I found the process to be thorough, professional, and reflective of the company’s high standards for leadership roles.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Tell me about a time you had to lead a team through a significant change. How did you gain buy-in, overcome resistance, and what was the outcome?
