First there was a phone interview, then I was scheduled for a CHIME (virtual) Interview. Before the interview I had to submit a written test and they issued a math problem to discuss during the interview. It was a four-hour interview with 4 individuals. Three of the four went well, the second interview was bad from the get go. He never turned his webcam on, not sure if he was watching mine. His internet connection was fading in and out. He seemed really annoyed from the start. He asked a question about my Military background and then it went downhill from there. At the end he asked if I had questions. The job encompassed last mile deliveries and I asked about concerns and pitfalls of last mile and what was Amazon's plan to overcome those and any concerns. He got really agitated, he said I obviously didn’t know that Amazon was doing last mile for a long time. (of course i know this, everything Amazon does in the realm of delivery and supply chain is published everywhere in the industry) I stated that the other interviewers stated this position was something Amazon was expanding into a larger scope and new in that sense. He then became very annoyed, he sounded insulted I would even ask this. He snapped back, don’t you see Amazon trucks everywhere, we are very good at it? His tone was such that I knew there was no point in trying to clarify or ask anything else. I asked four interviewers (including the phone interview) the same question no one else got annoyed. In fact, they were very articulate with their answers and one even engaged with me strategies they were looking at to be successful and my thoughts on it. Amazon approached and pursued me, I have a good job already and was not looking, so to make a move I need to be sold that it is a good fit and would want to know they are in it for the long haul and that they have a sustainable plan, especially in the area of last mile, which many companies struggle with and abandon. Just being Amazon is not enough, I need to know why I should want to change careers and that I can be successful. The impression I got from the one interviewer was I was the lucky one to be considered for hire by Amazon versus Amazon would be lucky to have me. He didn't even take into consideration or have compassion that it is a big risk leaving a good job to come work for them especially into an area of expansion that they are figuring out as they go (their words not mine). Guess it was fate, I withdrew my application and then I got a notification that I was not selected. Side note, if you are going to do a virtual interview, have the courtesy to turn on your camera also. If my connection was bad or my webcam not on, I am sure it would be viewed negatively from the interviewer, they should hold themselves to the same standard.
