Employer scheduled me a phone call with me to ask about my general knowledge with cognitive science and my experience in design. and then didn’t invite me for the interview process or give me any follow up information
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
What is your understanding of how cognitive knowledge works in collaboration with experience design?
I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Amazon in Mar 2015
Interview
Applied online, got email to do the screening. Did the screening the following week, got reject email this morning.
*Had a pretty negative experience and here's why*
- There was NO confirm email of the interview details. For all the other tech companies I interviewed, they email you about when you gonna do the interview, how are you gonna be interviewed(Phone?Skype?etc), who's gonna interview you. For Amazon's interview, non of this happen. Everyone just go fill in a Google spread sheet and that's it. I consider this as very unprofessional.
- I did phone interviews a lot, and this is the first time that I mostly can't hear what the interviewer's saying. The call quality is *very* low. I had to constantly ask interviewer to repeat the question. I'm pretty sure this is very annoying for her and for me as well. Amazon please use a better phone.
- All the questions are behaviour question. I asked and I'm sure that the interviewer didn't look at my portfolio. Again, I consider this as very unprofessional. Designer interview is not the same as developers, or other positions. You really need to look at my portfolio and ask specific questions so I can explain my approach. For many other companies they usually send a senior designer to interview me, and specifically ask me to explain my design process. This does not happen with Amazon's interview.
Amazon is a great company and I'm sure you guys did a great job, but in terms of the design position hiring process you really need to reconsider your approach.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Mostly behaviour questions like how you deal with conflicts
I applied online. I interviewed at Amazon in June 2024
Interview
First there was an online workstyle assessment.
Once you pass that, you'll have a 1 on 1 Interview going over your portfolio and behavioral questions.
Finally it's time for the loop. For me this consisted of a case study presentation, whiteboarding exercise, and 5 interviews focused on behavioral questions.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
They were mainly "Tell me about a time..." questions.
"Tell me about a time you uncovered a problem for your customer and how did you solve it?"
I applied online. I interviewed at Amazon (London, England)
Interview
1. Application
2. Call from a recruiter
3. Telephonic interview with a hiring manager (stucked here), it was not clear of receiving detailed emails stating how and what to prepare and what the next step in the process is.
