I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Atlassian (Ann Arbor, MI) in Nov 2023
Interview
The first steps were to discuss with the recruiter who gave me details about the job and what to expect. The second interview was a system design interview where you had an hour to talk about an example system design (that the interviewer prompted you with) and draw out the system in real time. A few days later I got a call back saying I did wonderful in the system design interview and to expect to move forward. I was ghosted for about a week. Then they called me to tell me they were no longer hiring and they could potentially call me in a few months if other positions open.
Honestly didn't want to work here given the rumors about Atlassian being an absolute nightmare of a company to work for, so the interview was good practice. But I don't appreciate the ghosting or lack of communication, and then stringing someone along only to deny them in the end.
I asked the interviewer what they thought of Atlassian's work life balance, and their answer was a very concerning one.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Atlassian wants to build a simple scheduling system that can execute one-off HTTP requests at a specified time. Consumers are internal Atlassian services only, and they may use this system to schedule requests to be executed in the future, for example:
A consumer can schedule a request to https://myservice.com/api/items/_delete to be executed on Sunday at 1am. On Sunday at 1am the scheduling system must execute the HTTP request.
Requirements
The system must:
Provide an interface for scheduling HTTP requests at a specified time.
Execute an HTTP request at a specified time.
Initial release expects 10 scheduling requests per minute.
Recruiter reached out to me then ghosted in the middle of trying to set up a meeting. Very disrespectful of my time. Just as well, how a company treats candidates is usually a good indicator of how they treat employees
Didnt get past OA, heard now has ai process. People are good but company is going downhill. Unfortunate for all good culture fits there s a lack of opportunity admist apex reviews to produce meaningful work.
Nice interviewer but i did not get an offer. good experience anyway i think.
I have heard good things about the company culture so i think it would be a good place to work
