I applied in-person. I interviewed at CVS Health (Hempstead, NY) in Nov 2011
Interview
I went to the store without prior notice at night. I chose a time when there wouldn't be too many people. They didn't ask me any questions about my abilities; rather, they told me I would have to be responsible and be patient and tolerate customers. They hired me on the spot, with Christmas retail season quickly approaching. 6-hour on-the-job training ensued, unpaid.
Very informal. I suppose it will differ by site. Mostly concerned availability and any past research experience. I found my interviewer to be very easy going and enjoyed the process.

I applied online. Got an interview within 2-3 weeks. Got hired the next 2 days. It was a very laid back interview and more conversation like. The manager looked at my resume and asked me about my customer service experience.
