      Business Analyst Interview

      25 Oct 2011
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Richmond, VA
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through university. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Capital One (Richmond, VA) in Oct 2011

      Interview

first round was on campus. One case interview and some chitchatting about background and what the position was about. The case was extremely easy. A few days later I was contacted by a recruiter to sign up online and finish some personality test and some GRE type of time assessment test. The assessment test was harder than expected, especially the verbal part where I almost ran out of time. Got another email a few days later informing me that I was selected for the final round of interview. Got to the interview site a few days later. They put me in a nice hotel and had a low-key reception the night before the power day where I got to meet some other candidates and some current Business Analysts. The current BAs will tell you that the job is pretty easy and you'd have a lot of free time. They all seem to like the job, but I got the feeling that it's nothing exciting. The next day started real early. I was instructed to check out of my hotel room by 7:30am, and interviews started promptly at 8:30. There were 2 case interviews and 1 behavioral interview. The cases were easy if you what to ask your interviewer. The whole "quantitative analysis" part that Capital One prides themselves with is nothing more than 4th grade arithmetics. I had no idea how simplified the cases were from real business scenarios and kept on asking for information that I did not need. Eventually I became visibly frustrated by the lack of intelligence put into these case questions and probably made the interviewers notice my attitude. If you have an advanced degree in quantitative field, my guess is that you won't be happy with this job.

1 online assessment followed by Power Day with 1 product and 2 cases. Power Day was quite tricky with concepts being combined and tested in different forms. Staying calm and taking in every word is crucial in keeping up with the casing.
