I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Exelon (Chicago, IL) in Aug 2015

      Interview

Started off with casual conversation, then a quick glance at my resume then went off to behavioral questions. They were a bit less conventional than typical questions. Only bad thing I would say is that I applied to several of these position for different locations but they did not schedule me for the earliest start date first so when I was already working on the pathway for one, I could not be considered for one that started sooner.

      Question 1

Q: Tell me of a time when you saw a safety concern and how did you react? Q: Tell me of a time when you had to instruct others?

      Nuclear Equipment Operator Interview

      19 Feb 2013
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 7 weeks. I interviewed at Exelon in Feb 2013

      Interview

The hiring process for a nuclear equipment operator is a long one. I had an initial phone interview where I wasn't really asked much, I think the only question was what are you most valuable skills? Then the testing/interview process was explained and I was given the testing date to take the POSS and BMST tests. I passed both tests which I studied for about 10 days for. The POSS was simple material but very very limited time given for the tests. The BMST was more difficult but still high school level math and science questions but definitely requires studying for 99% of the applicants out there. I waited about a week after the test until I received the testing results, then another 16 days or so until the interview was scheduled; I scheduled it in a few days. The interview was a 3 person panel interview composed of an HR representative, the superintendent of operations, and the manager of training operations. They took turns asking questions. The interview is conducted using the STAR format. They ask you a questions, you are supposed to respond by giving the situation, then your task, action taken, and the results accomplished by drawing off past job/internship/school experiences. These are the questions I remember being asked: Why do you want to be an equipment operator? Describe something that was difficult for you to learn and something that was easy for you to learn. Describe a time when you brought something to a team or added something important to a team. Describe a time when you stopped a co-worker from violating a safety procedure and how you went about it. What is your greatest accomplishment? Describe a time when you demonstrated using your problem solving ability to solve a problem. There were a couple more questions I don't remember but these were probably 75% of them. After this I was able to ask questions. I did not get the job despite being pretty confident about how the interview went after I left. My best recommendation and where I think I dropped the ball was on these questions, you can't necessarily say what comes to mind first. You need to be prepared to give the most impressive answers that make you shine to them; and in a few of these questions I answered based off more recent experiences which didn't reflect my most impressive characteristics. It was 13 days after I interviewed that I received the final decision that I would not be given an offer.
