I applied through university. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Goldman Sachs in Jan 2015
Interview
I initially applied to HCM online using their accelerated summer program. I then networked with a lot of GS employers, ranging from past summer interns to VPs. I got my resume forwarded by a couple different people, and I think that is why I was invited to a superday. I did not have initial screening interview, so my first direct contact with GS was on the superday. After the first interview, I was told to go home even though I was still being considered for the internship. About 2 weeks later, I was invited to another superday, and my recruiter told me that the teams that would be interested in me were not available to interview on the first superday. So about a month after my first superday, I went to the second superday and interviewed twice with 4 VPs from 4 different subdivisions of HCM, none of which I thought were "fit" for my skills. Both interviews went very well, and I clearly indicated that I was interested in 2 specific functions of HCM and they all seemed to agree that I would fit there best. The interviews were very relaxed but professional. Both interviews went 10-15 minutes over time, even though there were candidates waiting for their interviews after me. At the end of the second interview, I was so caught off guard with how much we went over time that I accidentally shouted "oh crap!" I was so embarrassed and apologized, and I really thought that I had no chance of getting in. I sent them thank you emails and didn't get enthusiastic responses either. The day after, I got a call around 7 PM with an offer!
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
So what part of HCM really interests you?
What are some struggles that HCM is facing given today's economy and competition in the job market? What solution would you provide?
Are you familiar with any federal regulations that HCM has to comply with?
Online application with a short cover letter. After 3 months I was contacted to do a video interview through an online platform. After 2 weeks I was contacted for a final round in person interview. The interview consisted of three 30 min interviews, mostly behavioural and competency based questions. Have examples ready, be prepared to answer why you want that specific role. The process was smooth and everyone was very nice.
