      Software Engineer Interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at HubSpot

      Interview

okay I usually don't do this but it's important to call out the level of hypocrisy that I experienced during my brief contact with the company. There are a lot of posts here that share my experience so I am doing nothing more but probably just validating their outcries. The SAME: Phone conversation with the recruiter. We discussed what I was looking for, what their company values are, how transparent and open their culture is yada yada yada. And then they said I seem like a good fit so I was sent a link to their coding challenge (Yes, it's the same one that everyone got here. Scheduling problem where you have to get availability dates from GET endpoint and post dates where most people can attend a conference on country by country basis.) Solved the challenge in under their required time. Uploaded my code and then the status in my candidate portal was updated as "Success! You're all set, we'll be in touch soon." And then of course no points for guessing what happened next. Nobody touched base after that and even after my constant follow ups they never got back to me. I even specifically asked for a feedback irrespective of whether or not they were moving forward with my application. I have had worse companies who don't put on a false display giving me better feedback than this. Hubspot just doesn't seem to care. Why would you ask people to spend 3 hours solving a challenge when you won't even reach back to them ever. It's a utter waste of time and resources. If you want to do that, do it by all means but stop pretending to have deeply thought core values. I am not even making this up, this is how they claim to operate: humble empathetic adaptable remarkable transparent I don't know if you can read the irony there but it's called H.E.A.R.T ... I mean... anyway

Hi there, this review was definitely tough to read - it really sounds like we missed the mark not only on transparency into potential next steps, but also in giving you feedback after you asked for it. If you're open to it, I'd love to make sure you get the feedback you deserve - send me an email at beckym at hubspot dot com and I'll make sure our team promptly follows up. Thanks for flagging this and for pushing us to get better - I appreciate it. Best, Becky

      No offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through university. I interviewed at HubSpot (London, England)

      Interview

I went through several rounds, including an initial screening, a technical assessment, and follow-up interviews. The process was well structured, but I found the technical part challenging because it required both problem-solving and clear communication under time pressure. The interviewers were professional, and the questions were relevant to the role. Although I did not receive an offer, the experience was still valuable and helped me understand the company’s expectations better.

Consists of an Online Assessment, followed by 3 rounds (2 System Design, 1 coding) One of the System Design interviewer was less experienced (with an experienced shadow interviewer). I feel like they didn't drive it correctly, didn't ask me the right follow-up questions and eventually gave negative feedback.
