Interview
For the internship, I completed an initial online test when I filled in the application form. I was then asked to complete another (can't remember the differences but think the second required hirevue style video answers). Following this, I was emailed by a manager inviting me to an informal 20 minute interview on teams. After this, I was invited to a final, longer interview (this was still on teams).
During the internship, you were asked if you wanted to be considered for a graduate role, starting the following year. If you opted in, your suitability for this was assessed throughout the internship. Successful candidates at this stage were fast tracked to an 'assessment centre light'. Following this, successful candidates were offered a full time position on the grad scheme.

Straight forward standard process. First, online test, with hirevue, followed by face to face interviews. Standard questions, nothing too technical. Motivations, skill set, experiences to date - opportunity to ask Qs at end.

Focus: motivation, understanding of SSE and the energy sector, and basic competency questions.
Typical questions:
“Why SSE and why this placement?”
“What interests you about thermal generation or business development?”
“Talk me through your CV highlights relevant to this role.”
3️⃣ Assessment Centre / Virtual Interview
(For summer placements, this may be fully virtual or a half-day in-person session.)
Components may include:
Competency-based interview
Behavioural questions using the STAR method (Situation, Task, Action, Result).
Focus on teamwork, problem-solving, communication, and adaptability.
Technical / Business Case Discussion
Scenario related to SSE Thermal projects, e.g., assessing the viability of a hydrogen-ready power plant.
