      Lead Software Engineer Interview

      2 Dec 2024
      Anonymous employee
      Gurgaon, Haryana
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at REA Group (Gurgaon, Haryana) in Oct 2024

      Interview

Screening Test: The first round involves an AI-based screening test. Technical Round: In the second round, you'll participate in a technical evaluation that includes: Extending a pre-written codebase in a programming language of your choice. Reviewing an alternate solution to the problem statement presented by the interviewer, demonstrating peer-level code review skills. Value and Cultural Interview: The panel will ask about your career, motivations, and work style through behavioral questions. Use the context-action-results (CAR) framework to share specific past examples. If you lack experience in a scenario, explain what you would do instead. HR Round: The final round is an HR discussion where the salary components, benefits, and other organizational policies will be explained. This round also assesses value alignment and cultural fit.

      Interview

The overall interview process felt poorly managed and lacked clarity from start to finish. The first round was an online object-oriented coding test. However, the portal was not functioning properly when I attempted it. As a workaround, HR arranged a live coding round, which involved a game-based task. I successfully cleared that round. Later, HR asked me to retake the same online test, mentioning that the portal issue was temporary. This time, the platform worked fine. Next, I had a system design round with an interviewer from Australia, which went well. However, I was informed that my profile was put on hold as they wanted to evaluate more candidates. A few days later, I was contacted again regarding an opportunity in another team, and another system design round was conducted. Following this, I was told that my profile might be considered for a Lead role instead of a Senior Lead role. Finally, I had a values round, which was non-technical and went smoothly. However, the feedback I received was that my profile seemed “more managerial.” This reasoning was confusing and inconsistent. After clearing both coding and system design rounds, receiving such feedback at the final stage felt unjustified. Overall, the process lacked alignment, with frequent changes in direction and unclear expectations. Each interaction brought a new update, creating uncertainty and a poor candidate experience.
