      Solution Engineer Interview

      17 Mar 2016
      Anonymous employee
      Toronto, ON
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at Salesforce (Toronto, ON) in Jan 2016

      Interview

The process involves phone screening followed by a presentation of their own software to them. I had six interactions with Salesforce before being hired. Firstly there were three phone interviews with my prospective manager and the two levels above him. These were very much relaxed calls designed to get to know me and make sure I was potentially a good fit rather than test me too much. This may be because I came through an employee referral. Already at this point each of them was not only friendly, but also supportive, the first two giving me tips on how to deal with and impress their respective bosses at the next stage. Then I had a first on site interview where my prospective boss ran me through the demo and gave me a week to prepare it (two weeks is more normal, but I was unemployed, so had time to spare). After preparing at home, I went in again a few days later for a dry run and he gave me tips on how to improve. Take this opportunity! I see a previous applicant did not do this and regretted it. Again, they truly do support you throughout the process. The demo went well for me, although I nearly fell down at the very end as I had not mentally prepared for any questions after it had finished. How did you think you did, if you were to do it again, what would you change, etc. They asked questions during the demo (as a client would), but they did not get overly aggressive with me. Factor in time for that (basic presentation 101). I love the fact that this process reflects the actual job you will be doing (presenting) rather than just a dry question and answer session. The difficulty is in having to learn their product in such a short time and present to a panel of experts. Luckily I had used it before, so I was familiar already, but it was still far from a given.

The application was straightforward 3 steps in total one with the recuirter, HM interview and a panel. The panel was quite challenging. I felt like i walked into a cold room immediately.

      Interview
